I am looking for some help. The oil change place lost the 1/4 turn fastener for the air vent that covers the oil pan. The dealership could not order just the fastener and told me that we had to order a new vent for $100. Does anyone know where I can get the fastener or who the manufacturer is? The 1/4 turn fastener is a thumb screw with a plastic retaining washer. Thanks in advance for any help.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a TSB covering this soon. They've been falling out all over the place. Mine, never serviced was dangling and I had to reinstall it. It takes quite a bit of torque to get it turned all the way and I think they're just being left loose. Even so, an informed dealer should warranty the part, IMHO. I'm checking on this too, maybe I can find a replacement receptacle and fastener that won't fall out so easily.
Best of luck tho!

Thanks. Please let me know what you find or you have a guess on the manufacturer of the fastener. I looked in McMaster Carr but found nothing. I am going to check with Fastenal tomorrow.

What is it, and where is it any pics?

You can find more information on this as well as pictures here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=342745&page=2 It is only on vehicles equipped with the Tow Package.

Mine fell off or wasn't re-installed at one of the two dealerships that I go to. Both are telling me that they won't cover it. I am currently dealing with a Customer Service Manager at Ford concerning this issue.

Hi guys,

I’m available to help by forwarding the details to the Customer Service Manager in your region. So I can lend a hand, please send a PM with your contact information, VIN, dealer name/state, and approximate mileage.
