2012 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi All! First time posting on this forum. I just bought a used 2012 explorer XLT. I've had an issue anytime it rains, I go through a car wash, etc... the front speakers get water in them and it distorts the audio for a few days until it dries out. I haven't looked much into pulling door panels off yet. Curious if anyone has had a similar issue and how you fixed it.

Thanks!

Wanted to post the solution in case this happens to anyone else. This seemed to be a bad design. The seal closest to the mirror on the outer window went bad, it separated specifically. We pulled the door panel off and did a water test. TONS of water leaking right through the door panel into the speaker area. Used some silicon to re-seal the piece. Haven't given it a through test yet, but it seems promising.

A little late but welcome to the Forum.
I don't know about it being a bad design or if you were just unlucky. There have been no other reports that I can recall on this specific issue. I believe you are the first to bring this up. Thank you for the update.

Hi there, do you happen to have a picture of the fix? I have the same issue

Welcome to the Forum Steve.
FYI, the member you quoted was last seen here on January 30, 2021.
My guess is that the speakers are no longer protected from water getting into the doors. I don't know of any way to check that without taking the door panels off.
