2013 Ford Explorer Base
I own a 2013 Base model Explorer. Perhaps someone can answer this for me. I notice the other day for the first time using the heater in the car, we tried to control the heat for the little one from the front controller. And when doing that, I notice that even if you put the fan on 1 or 2 it doesn’t give out heat from the vents in the rear, but if you set it to cold air it can go on full blast in the rear. Anyone else know of this problem or encounter this issue

Thanks in Advance

Your thread is being bounced down on the list so I thought I'd bump it back up. I don't have a base model so I'm not sure how the controls work. I know on the Limited, you can control it from the front.
Hopefully someone will be able to assist you.

On the base model you can do the same. But when you put the fan on high when is on heat it doesnt give out any hot air( like it doesnt go pass level 1). but when is cold air, the fans can go full blast up too Level 4.

Hi Miaheat,

Are you adjusting the rear temperature control or are you just adjusting the fan speed? You may want to give that a try next. Additionally, you can check out the information about rear climate control options starting on page 158 of the 4th printing of your Owner's Manual, available for free download here: https://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePage

If the second row is still heat-free, consider swinging by your dealership so they can take a look.

The heat comes out of two vents located just behind the second row, towards the floor. I believe that only the air conditioning comes out of the roof vents.

splurph.. thats make smore sense. So when i have it on HEAT it only comes out on the Vents in the floor. But when i have on COOL then it comes on the Vents on top. Correct!

If so, Thanks and i wonder why ford made it like that.. Weird

I wonder if has anything to do with preventing something in the headliner from getting too hot when heat is on full blast.:dunno:

Heat rises and cold air falls. That is why the heater is at the floor and air conditioning is higher.

chemistry 101 . now it all makes sense. Thanks woodduck

But heat does come out of the roof vents as long as the fan is not on high!
