2013 XLT 2nd row bucket seats not availalble yet ?

I am starting to sense a pattern here. First, they were available in early March. Then, they were available May 7th and now they are available July 9th. I hope this doesn't keep slipping further and further out. I haven't even ordered one yet and I am annoyed. I can't imagine how annoyed I would be if I had one on order. I am thinking about skipping the 2nd row captain's chairs just because of these continued delays.

July 9th, just in time for the 2014 models.:D

Just move up to a Limited....problem solved......:D

That is exactly what I was thinking. I guess I could look at the Limiteds but I think that will be a hard pill to swallow and even harder to get by the wife. :D

stevenailor,

Keep us in the loop with how the “sale” goes. ;)

The middle part is quite narrow and firm and when I tried sitting there the receiving end for the seatbelt was prodding me you know where.
I haven't tried the 3rd row seat yet.

Peter

Question...I have a 2011 Limited with the 2nd row bench seat and the actual seat portion is not level all the way across. In other words, the horizontal seat of the 60portion is not level with the horizontal seat of the 40 portion, and it makes that middle person's ride that much more uncomfortable. Anyone else?

Anyone with a 60/40 2nd row seat? Is it level all across the horizontal seat portion?

Mine are not quite level. The 40 part is a bit higher but that isn't what makes it uncomfortable to sit in the middle. It is the seatbelt receptors in the butt that make it uncomfortable. I guess my stearn is a little too wide to dock there.:D

Having sat on a bunch of the benches (lol), and now owning the captain's chairs, I would NOT go for the bench. Reason? The seat belt buckles on the bench make the center position all but unusable, well maybe if you are a 10 year old or younger (but not too young, because I don't think a car seat would fit in the center and still allow two normal sized people to sit outboard). From what I have experienced, the Explorer is only a 6 passenger vehicle, in any configuration, when trying to seat adults. I can imagine 3 children would fit fine on the bench.

I wouldn't buy an Ex with the bench thinking I will be able to fit 7 adults in comfortably, especially with the inflatable seat belts. Those buckles are UNYIELDING! :)

On top of the buckle debacle, the bench does not slide fore/aft currently (it has been mentioned that in future model years that functionality is planned), and I find it a bit tight for me (5' 11"), not uncomfortable, but a little tight. With the captains chairs, we can slide them fore/aft and give as much or as little leg room to what ever row. If the 3rd row is not occupied, we slide those 2nd row puppies all the way back and have tons of leg room. For those curious, I will measure them and post just how much they actually slide.

Those are my 2 cents :)

Hey Vince. We up here are getting rid of the penny. I believe no more production after this month. I guess Canadians won't be able to put in their 2 cents anymore.

Can we say "COLLECTOR'S ITEM??" ....or not ;)

2013 Explorer 2nd row seats

Welcome to the Forum Texas Explorer. :wavey:
I don't think 2nd row buckets are available on the XLT. I just did the build for an XLT and while there is an option shown for 2nd row bucket seats, the details for that option states that the available six-passenger seating configuration is available on the Limited model.
I don't know why they show it, or the console for the XLT model.
If you want the 2nd row bucket seats you will have to get the Limited.

Peter
The 2013 Explorer brochure as downloaded from FORD, under the XLT section states the 2nd row bucket seats require option 202A. I also saw the indication that it was only the Limited model, but the brochure says differently. Only problem now is actually seeing and sitting in the bucket seat myself, non are out there yet. Thanks.

Welcome to forum Pop2U,

there are a few threads around talking about build date for 2013 XLT with 2nd row buckets. I started one in the build forum area. Original production was for March 5; then pushed back to May 7; and now latest is July 9. My understanding is delay in getting the seats made - XLT is to use different leather than Limited. You can build the XLT on Ford website and add the 2nd row buckets.

But you should be able to find a few Limited around to sit in and test out room in buckets. My experience was that you got a bit more room behind driver with bucket vs. bench. I couldn't wait until July 9 or later for XLT so upgraded to Limited and just took delivery on 5/27. Few neighbors and friends who have ridden in vehicle say there is a good amound of room in the 2nd row buckets and very comfortable.

Finally, I would add on the $100 console even if you think you don't want it because as a few posts have shown, to add it later dealers are asking $900-1300 to get it after you buy it.

If you do get the 2nd row buckets, I believe they come without the inboard armrests. That is why it is nice to have the console.
Perhaps Gatortailale can confirm the armrest senario.

Peter is correct - no armrests. Get the console and remove later if you don't like it ... but too expensive to add on after you buy.

:salute:

If you find you don't like it, you could probably sell it for a couple of hundred bucks!

Hi everyone, I've been waiting to get a limited for over a year now just for the 2nd row bucket seats- I'm excited to see the XLT offers this now. I now own a Honda minivan 2002 and love this feature, but I am really ready for something new! Is the center console something that is easy to remove? For the most part we only use the first two rows, but occasionally we'll have others in the back and I would switch to the open middle occasionally if I could remove the console. I don't like the option of lifting the seat because I get claustrophobic and like a open passage. Also, is it a definite that there are no interior armrest options for the 2nd row buckets?

As confirmed above by Gatortailale, there are no interior armrests on the 2nd row bucket seats. FYI, I believe the Limited has always had 2nd row bucket seats available.

Thanks, I have been holding off on the limited because it is more expensive, and I didn't need all the extras, just wanted the 2nd row seats. Do you know the answer to how easy it is to remove the console and put it back in as needed?
