Hello, I have a 2015 Ford Explorer - basic package with 152,000 miles, sole owner, serviced regularly. I had the rear toe link recall done in summer of 2019. At that time, the dealer recommended replacing the upper control arm bushings - $552. which weren't covered under the recall. I had the work done.

I recently went in for routine oil change and the dealer recommended to replace both rear knuckles at an estimated $1,580. Several questions come to mind since this type of repair is new to me. Wouldn't the knuckles have been bad in 2019 when I had the other work done? How often do knuckles need replacing? What specifically goes bad with a knuckle? Assuming this is a legitimate repair, is there something else I should be replacing at the same time such as shock absorbers?

I'm wondering if other Explorer owners have had any rear suspension situations such as this.

I appreciate any information or experience sharing. Thank you for your help.
Greg
