2016 Platinum Late Production?

I just read something on one of the fleet production sites that said there is a delay with Class 3 tow package. Not sure if this is what is effecting the Platinum.
The class III towing package is standard on the Platinum model.

Ditto here ! Good to see one delivered to a dealer with lots of pictures. The leather sure looks white, may need plastic covers like my grandma's sofa.

Agreed, nice to see one "in the wild". However if I purchased from that dealer the first thing I'd ask them to do is remove that ridiculous dealer decal from the below the Platinum badge.

It appears there are some delays with production of Platinum models at Ford's Chicago assembly plant. I don't know why, but my scheduled build date just changed from August 24 to September 21 -- that's a delay of almost a month. You should check to see if your Platinum is being intentionally held in Chicago for some reason.

For the record, here's the sequence of events for my 2016 Explorer Platinum:

- Placed order with deposit: December 22, 2014
- Order confirmed by Ford: January 14, 2015
- Status updated to Unscheduled Clean: July 10, 2015
- VIN assigned: July 17, 2015
- Build date of 8/24 scheduled: July 24, 2015
- Build date of 9/21 scheduled: August 14, 2015

As you can see, things seemed to move right along from July 10 to July 24. Now, all of a sudden, there's a four-week delay. I suspect they discovered a "glitch" with the Platinum models and need time to resolve whatever it is.

I have just come back from my Ford Dealer ( Quality Auto Mall in New Jersey) after placing my order for a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum in White Platinum . Never have to leave a deposit because I have been doing business with this dealer and the same salesman for over 25+ years.

DUAL DVD HEADREST
ROOF RAIL CROSS BARS
SECOND ROW BUCKET SEATS WITH CENTER CONSOLE
SPLASH GUARDS
WHEEL LOCKS

My salesman told me that the Explorer will most likely be at the dealer in about 2 months or less because they have "dealer allocation" . He took me for a tour at their lot and they have over 700 new Ford vehicles including about 50 explorers where about 20+ were Explorer Sports. I asked him what was the so call "delay" on the Platinums and he told me that Ford wants to sell first the Limited,XLT and Sports first before the Platinums otherwise most people will be ordering the Platinums and the rest will be sitting at the dealers. He also told me that the Black Ebony interior will be a late availability.

My ETA for delivery was yesterday. Haven't heard anything from my dealer and ford service says it's still awaiting shipment.

I heard there might have been an issue with the park assist package, namely the new perpendicular park assist.

Good news folks! I actually got to test drive a Platinum today. The only reason I did not drive away with it is because it was not in the color I wanted, otherwise I can say that it was absolutely perfect. The interior quality and sound system was a cut above the rest.

If anyone is looking for a Platinum in Platinum White, you may still be able to get it at Bob Rohrman Ford right outside of Chicago.

I think once they officially release Ebony leather interior (December) and SYNC3 (17 MY) you will see Platinum orders take off. I believe beige/cream (whatever it is) was one of the lowest take rates in previous model years.

I know it's always a personal choice but I ordered the light stone interior in my 2011 Limited. I now have the black interior in the MKT because I didn't have a choice. I never would have ordered it if I had a choice.:)

I prefer lighter interiors. Looks more luxurious, IMO. Kind of reminds me of a private jet or something. Just wish they'd covered the center console with the same leather.

The interior color that you speak of is nothing like ones on previous model years. This one looks and feels different. I've always been a black interior fan until I saw this. It looks very classy but it will be slightly more high maintenance than black. People are going to buy this interior because it will be considered the most "special" since you CAN'T get it on any of the lower models. Ebony, however, you can get on pretty much any model so that takes away the "uniqueness" of it. Make sense?

I think SYnc3 will be the biggest difference-maker. But even then, I've seen Sync3 and I've seen the current MFT, and I have to be honest... Sync3 looks absolutely boring and since it will be a first year launch, will most likely be filled with bugs. Remember Sync 1??

Yes you're right the SYNC3 GUI is so 2009 its brutal but I think the future redesigns will be much better. Here's to hoping for the same multimedia wishes we all had in 2011 with MFT.

Im sure the Platinum interior is much more luxurious I just don't want the issues people have had with staining from blue jeans or other materials on the light colour interior seats.

I think it's an age related preference, the older you are the closer you're getting to the final coffin/vehicle with black interior so you want bright colours in your vehicle. At least that's what my parents tell me. Their Lexus is like a Hospital inside it's so freakin bright.

I want my interior colour to represent my mourning for the MFT version that died over the past few years. LOL!

For all of you that have a VIN #, you can try this link to check on the status of your vehicle - http://www.cotusb.ford.com/ . One caveat is that it is verrrry slow, but it does eventually come up. Not sure why. Also it will likely not show anything until after the production start date. Up until that time it is in "Order Processing" and won't show up. Let me know if it works for you.

This one shows nothing for me. My Expedition is built and on it's way to the dealer. This one works though. Put the VIN at the end of this link.

Do you care to share the pics and the experience or just leave us in suspense? :)
