The order for my 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum was placed on Saturday August 15 and Ford has received the order from the dealer. Now its just a matter of waiting for the vin # so later I can check the Window Sticker.

Will keep you posted of the build day. Once the Explorer has been delivered I will take photos and post them here.

Keep us posted. Be interesting to see when you get your Vin. I placed my order end of July, still no Vin. Not sure if it has to do with color/options or dealer allocation?
 






In Production or not

Just curious if the 2016 Ford Explorer is in production and is the production line moving??? My dealer says the line is not moving.

Are you talking about a particular model? The production line must be moving since there are members here who have received a 2016 and they are also sitting on dealer lots.

Awaiting shipment

My 2016 Platinum Explorer was built on July 23. I'm not sure how long it takes to build them, but it's been awaiting shipment for probably over 3 weeks now. I check for updates with ford service, which is a great service they provide every day. They probably can't wait for the vehicle to be delivered so they can get rid of me form bugging them everyday.:eek:

I have been following your posts BlueFlame since mine was built on 7/28/15 and no eta yet from Ford Service. I'm just 30 miles from the plant so I don't think shipping is the issue. Could be a flaw they found and are awaiting replacement parts and rebuild sequence ....or not.

It definitely has to do with dealer allocation. Back in about the third week of December 2012 I placed an order for my 2013 Explorer Sport. I received the Vin # the first week January 2013 and the Explorer was built on January 23,2013. It was delivered and picked up by me the second week of February 2013. So it took around 6 weeks from the time the vin # was issued until it was delivered. I do remembered that there was others here in the forum that had been waiting for over 10 weeks for the same Explorer Sport. I asked my salesman why mine was delivered so fast and he told me that it has to do with "dealer allocation" . I also remember and in my order there was something that said "priority level 10" which I do believe is the highest level given to a Special order from a Dealer.

I will keep you posted as to how the process is going. Tricia from Ford Customer Service will be keeping me inform when I get the vin # as well as the Window Sticker/Build Date for the Explorer. She was the one that confirmed today for me that Ford has received my order for the Explorer Platinum.

When I was there at my dealer in New Jersey my salesman took me on a tour at the lot located at the back of the dealer and he showed me about 700 new Ford cars and suvs . There I saw over 50+ 2016 Ford Explorers of all models except the Platinum. He told me that they are the biggest Dealer and Bergen County, New Jersey. So that may be another reason why big dealers may get first delivery of a Special Order. That is why I know that it definitely has to do with "dealer allocation" .

What info did you have to give to Tricia for her to confirm your order? I didn't receive an order number or anything from my dealer, can she look up your order by just your name?

You must have the order number from the dealer. Call back your dealer and ask them for your order confirmation number and then PM Tricia with the number and she will look it up and tell you if Ford has received your order number. She will also update you with the status from Vin # to build date to delivery.

I was advised that many (600) of the Platinum models are on 'HOLD' due to an issue with the interior seat surface appearance.

Yes, my dealer just told me same thing. This matches same story the factory workers mentioned when I poked around their parking lot. Unfortunately the dealer said early fourth quarter for release. He said no new orders being taken but was surprised when I told him several were released and being sold. Hopefully we will learn more on timing as this becomes more public.

Yes , you are correct . Tricia from Ford Service . I do believe she is taking over for Crystal. She is the person now that if you send her you Dealer Order Number she will let you know the status of the order from Vin number to Window Sticker and Delivery times.
 






No I know Tricia has taken over for Crystal.

I was asking Tricia to please confirm whether there is in fact a delay/hold on orders due to an issue with the seats (or any other issue). I think those of us with open orders are entitled to be notified of any delays such as this so we prepare accordingly.

Tricia, sorry to put you on the spot but can we have some official comment from Ford on this? Thanks

I caved

Yesterday I caved. My Platinum which I ordered in April which was built two weeks ago and was put on hold due to seat upholstery issues was replaced by a 16 Explorer Sport last night. I am elated with my decision and believe way better off with ebony interior and best of all I drove it home last night!!
