I'm just speculating here but when I plugged my VIN into the Ford Etis system it showed my build date was 7/29/15. The interesting item was that it listed: "Ebony Black/Ebony Black Interior". All other items were exactly as ordered. It does not mention "leather" but since it lists Ebony Black twice, it seems to infer trim and leather. I wonder if they already swapped all to Ebony Black? We may be in the middle of a production change due to supplier issues. Anyone else with a post build date showing different interior color on Etis? www.etis.ford.com

My order-confirmation document (accepted by Ford on January 14) indicates EBONY BLACK INTERIOR for my Explorer Platinum. When I first saw that, I called my sales guy who explained that ebony black refers to the dashboard color -- not the color of the seating upholstery. Way back in January there wasn't any discussion about ebony-black seats, so I think the "Ebony Black/Ebony Black Interior" you saw via the Ford Etis system still refers to the color of the dashboard, not the color of the seats.

Does anyone know the availability of the Ebony interior? I can't get word out of my dealer since last weekend when I tried to order a Platinum with Ebony and they held on to the order while they "looked in it". I've called two different salesmen there three times and they simply never call back.

So far one person has "received" their Platinum and not posted pictures or responded ever since, and the other one said he had pictures from the parking lot at the factory... but never provided them.

Thanks for the link. Nice to see they are arriving! hope some members here receive theirs and post some pics. I agree that most dealer stock seems to be the Plat White from what I can tell. The interior in those pics look more "white" than ceramic. Maybe just the lighting?

Ditto here ! Good to see one delivered to a dealer with lots of pictures. The leather sure looks white, may need plastic covers like my grandma's sofa.

It appears there are some delays with production of Platinum models at Ford's Chicago assembly plant. I don't know why, but my scheduled build date just changed from August 24 to September 21 -- that's a delay of almost a month. You should check to see if your Platinum is being intentionally held in Chicago for some reason.

For the record, here's the sequence of events for my 2016 Explorer Platinum:

- Placed order with deposit: December 22, 2014
- Order confirmed by Ford: January 14, 2015
- Status updated to Unscheduled Clean: July 10, 2015
- VIN assigned: July 17, 2015
- Build date of 8/24 scheduled: July 24, 2015
- Build date of 9/21 scheduled: August 14, 2015

As you can see, things seemed to move right along from July 10 to July 24. Now, all of a sudden, there's a four-week delay. I suspect they discovered a "glitch" with the Platinum models and need time to resolve whatever it is.

I just read something on one of the fleet production sites that said there is a delay with Class 3 tow package. Not sure if this is what is effecting the Platinum.
