2017 ordering

I heard the 17 F150 should have the Start/Stop technology and maybe a new transmission so perhaps the Explorer will pick up some of that too.

I sure hope 17 Ex has a new PTU design, I know it's been a priority but no idea when it enters production.

Apparently we might see LED Fogs standard for 17 and a few other tid bits, no order guide out yet but that will likely come in February.

Ford Connect or Ford Pass looks cool too.

Don't think I can extend my current lease for 2 years. :D

Peter

Lol, I need to figure out 17 explorer platinum or 17 edge sport.. or extend my ESP to 149,000 miles and wait 2 more years.

My guy will get me the order guide once it is available to him. He gets them before they are sent to dealers. I know you have connections too so I'll be interested to see when we can get our hands on it.

I heard all ecoboost motors will get start/stop. Not sure about N/A motors.

Hey Guys,

I'm new here and want to buy an explorer.. There's a 2017 model coming??? Any info is appreciated.

2017 Explorer

Take a look at post #1 of this topic!

The 2016 LED Headlights are a huge improvement over our 2011 halogen headlights. My 16 sport did not come with the LED fog lamps, but the $30 Amazon LED bulbs work great too.

Been researching this a bit more... Does anyone think that for '17 that the high beams will be LED? My wife's CX5 has high and low beam LED's and they are great.

Also - do you think the 2016 headlights are on par with the competition in this segment? e.g. MDX, Durango, etc. Read a not so flattering review about the lights in Consumer Reports. I have to be sure this time that the headlights are excellent - otherwise off to another brand (sadly) for me I think.

The order guide should be available soon so we will know if high beams are LED as well. We can speculate all we want but that is all it will be. As posted in another thread, the new Lincoln MKX has LED hi and lo beams so Ford has the technology. Unless someone has driven the Explorer and the competition it would be difficult to say if the leadlights are on par.

You make your brand choice by headlights?

MDX is nice, Durango is nice, not even close to an Explorer Sport or Platinum. Check the resale value on a 1 year old Durango.

Consumer Reports is morally and ethically corrupt, I don't put much stock in their 60-70 year old senior staff testers. Didnt they get busted only a few years ago for testing issues or conflicts?

As funny as it may sound, I think this time yes regarding headlights. Here in Upstate NY the deer population is huge and having really good headlights is helpful.

The Durango R/T is not even close to an Explorer Sport? I haven't driven one but all the reviews I have read suggest otherwise - doesn't sound like the Hemi keeps up with the EcoBoost... I had an '11 Jeep GC Overland which was a great vehicle - some of the reviews I see draw comparison and call it a 3 row Jeep. Surely the MDX is as nice as the Explorer - although you give up space and frankly not sure I want to be back in an Acura (had an '03 MDX and an '08 RDX, the latter of which was my favorite). I think Acura's SH-AWD system is very good - the RDX had it back then and was very sure footed.

Not heard that about CR; Certainly not relying on just one publication. I have some evening test drives in my future!

Resale value doesn't so much matter as long as the residual's aren't whacked since I'm leasing (2 or 3 year, not sure yet).

I respectfully disagree.

MDX has the nicest headlights thats for sure, not my choice for styling but that's a personal choice.

Up here the MDX starts at $53K and goes up fast from there if you want AWD.So a base MDX pencils out at almost what a loaded Explorer does and they don't move much from MSRP on Acura. I put them in a class above Explorer because of cost, nothing negative.

I can drive a full load Ex Sport for $400/month vs an MDX for $800, that's all I was comparing.

I love the new Jeep GC but it isn't a 3 row vehicle so I wasn't including it, the Durango R/T very nice but I'm always concerned about Dodge and their build quality. I think they lease out at pretty low monthly payments. Again it's another personal styling choice.

CR Editors annoy the crap out of me when they slam a vehicle for something that is insignificant but is a minor issue for them personally. Also when they have a some 60 year old senior citizen tester who tries to operate My Ford Touch and then calls it unusable because he himself is a complete techno pheasant. Ya we know it had issues but after v3.8 it worked flawless for 95% of users so don't use your magazine to mislead or bend the facts.

Thanks. I like the Explorer Sport styling the best; I think the Durango R/T is a close second. I've never had a Dodge and frankly love my Ford dealer as well my Ford sales guy so it would be a tough change for me to make. When I run the lease payments for a loaded Explorer Sport and a loaded MDX (not with entertainment), the MDX monthly is like $30 more.

Hopefully the headlights are great in the '17! As an aside, I do think Ford got smart with the '16 and put in real buttons for HVAC. I'm ready for Sync 3 too - have it in my '16 Mustang GT and I have had issues with Sync 2 in the Explorer....

I'm actually trying to tap my sources for the rational behind the LED/Halogen split when everyone else is moving towards both LED Lo & LED High. Especially since Lincoln has it.

You can get a great MDX deal because I cant come close to that. "A" Plan at Ford cant be matched with any local discounts at Acura around here.

Hey, I have a few questions about 2017 ordering:
Do any of the incentives apply when you order? Is it the ones that are around when the car is delivered? Is there the same amount of price negotiations etc?
Or is it pretty much paying the sticker price?

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
If there are incentives in place when you order the Explorer you can get those. If there is a different incentive in place when you take delivery you have the option of taking that one or keeping the initial one. In other words it's one or the other. The price negotiation is usually done prior to the order being placed. There are several threads on what people have paid/negotiated in the "Discussion" sub forum. I don't believe anyone has paid 'Sticker' price.
Here is just one of the threads I found;

Thanks for the welcome!
That's what I was hoping. I was very close to pulling the trigger on a 2016 sport, but was hoping for a few upgrades on the 17. Sync 3 being at the forefront.

I was using sites such as Unhaggle and http://www.apa.ca/ and was pretty happy with the pricing from those.

I think they'd look good with some winter tires on them as well, with those down posts helping churn through 2 feet of snow

2 1/2 weeks 'till the '17 order bank opens.

I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything concrete about the changes to the vehicle.
