2017 PIU
First try at this...just got a 2017 PIU and I am trying to figure out how to get remote start...looking for the FORscan area for the alarm module to see if it is installed or need to get it installed.

On my 2016, I added a hood switch...but it could not be enabled via Forscan. You CAN enable it for the IPC....but IDS is required to make the truck see the switch. Meaning, even if it's enabled for the IPC....it won't appear until IDS is used.

In IDS, remote start needs to be activated, and then the truck will see the hood switch.

You still need an aftermarket system to make remote start work in the 2016 and later units.

I turned on the perimeter alarm in mine via Forscan.

I used a Fortin EvoAll in mine, and that unit can be set up for no hood switch, as mine worked without a hood switch. Here's the crazy part...once IDS enabled the hood switch...the remote start doesn't work if the hood is open. (Perfect)

It's important to know that the aftermarket remote start is needed to only turn on the factory remote start system...

That is the way it is supposed to work. :)

I have a 2017 and went with 2016-2019 Ford Explorer POLICE INTERCEPTOR Remote Start Plug and Play Kit - NO HORN HONK

I had to add a hood switch, but it works fine.
My horn was not working and I was searching for answers when I found the NO HORN HONK long range remotes kit from 12V so I tried it, I found the cut wires for the horn in the process and now horns honk but I could not get the remote start to work never thinking about a hood switch. Being advertised as Plug and Play it was returned after the physical pain of removal was endured. Paying a shop to install a different kit now.

I personally had a very bad experience with 12V and ended up returning the kit I had; but to be fair they do mention on their site that you need a hood switch. The install/uninstall process sucks though, my knuckles still feel the pain.

That hood switch is an important safety item that won't allow remote starting if the hood is open for some reason.
