Hi all new to this forum :)

Holy ad popups batman!

I need to make a 300 mile round trip from Fresno, CA to Murrieta, CA, traveling through the grape vine (mountains)... My wife's 2018 XLT V6 Auto is completely stock. Was looking online at amazon and found some 2" tow hitches and was going to just rent a uhaul trailer once I get to Fresno and tow my son's '84 Corvette back on it. Anybody think there will be any difficulty with this? Anything I should watch out for? I have no idea what the capability of this suv and towing is, but I figure this should be just fine. I'm also assuming a hitch and a trailer are all I need to get this one time job done...

First. Make sure U-Haul will allow you to tow anything behind an explorer

I think they finally got over that with the 5th gens, but I could be wrong.

Am I missing something? Was there a history of uhaul not renting out trailers to explorers? lol

The Explorer can tow up to 5000lbs if it has the tow package with factory class 3 hitch. If you don't have the tow package it is significantly less capable.

The trailer is probably 1500 lbs and the C4 vette is probably over 3500 lbs so you are exceeding the max rating.

Renting a Home Depot truck may be better option

The trailer is 2210 lbs and the corvette is 3200 lbs. U-Haul won't rent you that trailer with your explorer. Even if they did, you'd be in for a ride going over the grapevine.

Welcome to the Forum.
Yes, U-Haul did have a policy in place for Explorers but not for the 5th gen. Several members have rented U-Hual trailers for various purposes.
If your Explorer does not have the factory-installed tow package then you are legally limited to towing no more than 2000 lb.
If you want to stop pop-up ads then you can get the Elite Explorer membership for $20 and take advantage of other items and support the site.
You just missed the 2 years for 1 special. https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/account/upgrades
