I bet the dealer would likely still have a jacket in the file with other documentation like the build sheet, invoice, window sticker, and floor plan info.I don't know what else to say, it was on my window decal that came from Lance Cunningham Ford in Knoxville TN.
But then Lance has carried a lot of other performance mustangs that I never saw anywhere else, maybe they do the same in some of their Platinums or other "performance" vehicles as well. I have no clue. But this one caught my eye and decided I had to give it a try. Glad I did.
Even the mechanic was aware of other platinums with the ST tuning, so, I'm not sure what else to say.
Have a good day
I bet the dealer has a jacket in their file with the window sticker, invoice, build sheet, and floor plan information. This would be nice to have if you decide to sell this unicorn in the future.I personally don't believe it is a one of a kind. I remember reading about explorers back in early 2020, and there were references then to Platinums with the 360hp setup and Platinums with the same 400hp setup as is available on the ST, it was information from either car and driver or road and track, I forget. Maybe the reporter doing the writeup didn't know what they were talking about, but I do remember reading that before I bought the one I bought. Maybe his confusion added to this.
I remember the salesman saying this specific one would have better performance out of the two I was interested in.
There were others on the lot that were of the same type as the one I chose, just not the color I wanted.
Whether they were factory stock, or dealer added later, I have no clue.
I have sent my VIN to some one to check it out. I had done that before I saw the requests on here, that is why I didn't post here or in PM.
But my gut tells me it will show nothing out of the ordinary on the factory sheet. And I'm sure that when I say it doesn't show on the factory window sticker, I am pretty sure what reaction I will get in this group.
I'm still betting that it was something that the dealership had added, just like they have added tons of other stuff to loads of other cars through the years.
They have been doing mustang build ups for decades that you could get done aftermarket, but were selling them there on the lot along side the others, but with better superchargers, etc. They were even noted as one of the first dealerships to do this in the area. All with a factory supported warranty.
I went by for a bottle of touchup I had ordered a week ago and they had two F150s that are basically street legal monster trucks with upgraded stereo systems upgraded interiors over the Platinum and other top of the line Ford truck models. I've seen similar for many years, so, why is it so hard to imagine this could be the case here as well??? And if it isn't the case, then I have no idea why the salesman said what he said and why it measured what it did.
I'm sorry, I'm done trying to convince a group that is dead set against one concept that they have never seen their self. Which, to me, is totally plausible and realistic.
Like I said, it's not like I'm claiming to have a 1000hp pinto from a dealership with a factory warranty, geesh
let it rest. if I find something positive proof, I'll post it, otherwise, enjoy your ride, I'm done
How about some pictures!I don't know what else to say. He told me this morning that is what he measured and calculated. Plus the regular 0-60 for the Platinum is around 5.3-5.5 (gleaning various performance reports all over the web), he clocked mine at 5-5.2, so, there was "something" done to it to get that speed....
Regarding the warranty, I have already had a warranty claim on it and it was paid, passed with flying colors. They have sold hundreds of vehicles with aftermarket mods that affected all parts of the vehicle, from the tires to paint to upgrades in superchargers on mustangs and etc etc. So I'm sure this is not going to void the warranty. If it would on mine, it would have on those hundreds they have sold the last decade or two.
I don't know what else to say.
Someday this topic can be put to bed, just not sure when, lol
I need to... will shoot for the next sunny day. Its a red streak, lolHow about some pictures!

I appreciate your inputs. There are 2 scenarios here that could happen. First when you tune a vehicle, the tune will/could only void the warranty that the tune effects. You will not lose your warranty on a backup camera or front camera, alternator, water pump etc. What you could/would lose it on is your engine throwing a rod, head gaskets blowing, turbo letting go etc.. anything the tune can cause to work beyond the means set by Ford.
Your dealer can obviously lie to Ford or not tell them. Nothing they do themselves to modify a vehicle is covered by Ford as the manufacturer period.
If Ford requests files from your vehicle because of an engine issue, you are 100% screwed as they will see the tune. However, unless it was a major or catastrophic failure, Ford will not inquire about it. Heck, they could send an engineer down and you are still screwed if they did.
Don't care what a salesman says to you, they are not Ford, they don't offer the warranty and if Ford looks I to a failure and sees it, you are responsible.
My dealer is mod friendly too however it is one reason I won't tune my gt350. At $18,000 for the engine alone, $6,000 for the transmission, I will not risk tuning.
I'm done with this subject now, no need to go back and forth any longer. Just know, Ford finds out, you have no warranty.
You sir are 100% correct the dealership you bought it from might cover it but the one down the road more than likely will not, been a Ford technician for 33 years and it's been that way at every dealership I've worked for and I've been involved with quite a few vehicles over the years that have been declined warranty due to modifications of different types. There are 2 scenarios here that could happen. Thank you very much for your input. I do plan on taking it back to the same dealership for all service and repairs so hopefully I will never have to find out.You sir are 100% correct the dealership you bought it from might cover it but the one down the road more than likely will not, been a Ford technician for 33 years and it's been that way at every dealership I've worked for and I've been involved with quite a few vehicles over the years that have been declined warranty due to modifications of different types.
What are the dealer performance upgrades?I appreciate your inputs.
I did make it to the dealership today, and did pick up my window sticker and my add on sheet.
The window sticker shows just the factory shipped stuff, and the multiple options added by the factory.
The dealer add on sheet shows a few things, including performance improvements made by the dealer (or a 3rd party under their direction) as listed, which according to the dealership owner, are all covered under the warranty I purchased. There are no exclusions.
My explorer, along with all of the vehicles with dealer add ons that have been sold by that dealer since I first saw "dealer improved" vehicles at this dealership since around 1997 or so, don't quote the date, but I "think" that was when I bought a two door explorer fully loaded that turned into a lemon (Maybe earlier but that is around the time I first bought one at that dealership) They had modified mustangs that were running with packages approved by the dealership and evidently the Ford factory.
If they weren't approved by the factory for warranty purposes, ... well, how many of those dozen mustangs and dozen F150s every year sold there, (let alone the modified rangers now, and the few focus's, and few fiesta's, and few fusion's/bronco's sold every year (just speaking about dealer add'on modifies)) how many of them have had failures caused by failures in what the dealer added on. I bet at least one a year from 35 or so dealer modded vehicles have had failures due to what the dealership added.... Imagine the factory then saying "no, not under warranty, not covered".... guess what would have hit the news, and guess who would no longer be selling those dealer add on'd vehicles, if they would even still be in business. It is a LONG standing dealership, VERY good reputation for high quality, etc., and if there had ever been an issue like this, then I would have heard about it on the news, or they would not be in business today.
So, I appreciate your thoughts, but, what I have is completely covered.
What is not covered is anything I add on myself, and if that causes a failure, then I am SOL. As we both would agree.
Confirmed by the dealer owner. He remembers me from my multiple purchases, and we usually say hi when I am there for service.
Thank you, I do appreciate your inputs, having read your inputs here and in a LOT of other threads, so I do value your opinion, and am glad that we are putting this to bed, finally.
Best of luck with your endeavors,
Now, to wait for a sunny day to take some pics and post on here somewhere....
John
Exactly what they are, I don't know. What are the dealer performance upgrades?
You said the dealer add on sheet shows a few things. What are those things it shows?Exactly what they are, I don't know.
The finance guy said it was for better performance in sport mode.
I am assuming it is like taking it to an aftermarket tune place.
But, I don't really care, all I know is it moves like a bat out of hezz, and I'm very happy with it, and it's covered if it breaks by the dealership.
I'm not sure why the grilling on this. You said the dealer add on sheet shows a few things. What are those things it shows?
Just post the add on sheet so other members can see what was added and maybe add some of the same things. Is that too hard to do?I'm not sure why the grilling on this.
SM Performance is all that really pertains to acceleration and stuff, what it is, I don't know exactly.
The finance guy I dealt with told me that the one that affected how well it accelerates is the one labeled SM Performance.Just post the add on sheet so other members can see what was added and maybe add some of the same things. Is that too hard to do?
LmaoThe finance guy I dealt with told me that the one that affected how well it accelerates is the one labeled SM Performance.
That answers your question regarding this topic
There are the other typical dealer add-ons as well on that sheet.
Nothing else really out of the ordinary that matters.
Not sure what is so hard to believe about a dealership that sells vehicles above the standard packages. I see them in other dealerships as well. So why is this one any different?Lmao
