21 Explorer AC issues

Bought a 21 explorer Limited a few months ago. Now in the triple digits here in the desert and the AC won’t stay cold. You put it on max ac and it will cool and then stop and keep repeating this pattern. Then at time it will stop cooling all together. I popped the hood and was looking at the ac clutch and it won’t stay engaged. Not sure if anyone has had this problem before but I search the internet and can’t find anything, and the mechanic we take it to can’t figure it out either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A low refrigerant charge or a plugged cabin filter can cause evaporator freezing which would show those symptoms. A faulty electrical relay can also cause that.
The best starting point is to recover the existing charge and weigh the amount taken out then recharge and diagnose.
