into an 01 sport? I say get a mustang shell and make a street machine...leave the expy as is

my explorer has no motor, i blew that **** up..........dont want to buy a stang, just wanna drop that motor into the explorer, it is my cruiser/ race truck, the truck is only 2 inches off the ground, custom suspension made for taking corners, offset front and rear tires, negative camber and toe..........just need help with the motor now

oh...why didnt you say so? :)

then by all mean, make a chromed 289 expy rocket!

Is the fuel injection off of a Mstang 5.0 engine or is it an aftermarket set up?

The 289 has a distributor and your 4.0 sport is DIS. You will have to figure out how to wire a distributor in

If you have an automatic tranny it won't hold up to the V8. You will need a 4R70w if you want to keep OD which opens a whole other can of worms.

You could use a C4 but you will need a new custom made drive shaft.

You would be much better off buying a rolled V8 Explorer and pulling the enginy, tranny and PCM from it.

The fuel injection kit is aftermarket from summit racing........I kinda figured my tranny wouldn't hold up to a 289 v8 and thanks for the tips man.......I want a v8, but the xplorer v8 doesnt put out the power i want without a lot of extra work

Like mentioned the tranny's are not interchangable, but if this is a race only 2wd truck you can always find a C4 to put behind the 289. The 289 is a great high(er) reving engine and is at home on the track. If you have the time and money go for it. It won't be a bolt in, but it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to make it work.

its not race only, i'll be drivin as a normal vehicle too, I'll go for the 4R70W rather than the c4 and call it a day.....
