Hey yall. first all, if this in the wrong forum, i apologize, i just thought this would be the right spot, because this post will kinda involve fiberglass. Anyway, im having ideas about maybe getting a 95-97 dash (the entire dash) and putting it in for my 92 dash (because with the 1st gen dashes, theres not much room for improvement). Ive seen it once somewhere, i think, but i cant find any pictures, or any mention of doin this swap. My questions are:
1) Will the back part of the 2nd gen dash fit in the 92? what mods would have to be done for it to fit in the ex. i assume not much, as the body stayed the same basically from the firewall back.
2)if it will fit pretty simple, im not worried much about converting all the wiring. im goin to keep the 92 wiring, but i do want to convert the light switch, the rear wiper switch (ill need to get a variable speed rear wiper motor), and maybe 4x4 switch. what all would be involved in making the 2nd gen switches work with the 92 wiring?
3)i also might want to do the dorr panels as well, so what kind of fabing will i have to do for them to fit the door?
4)did 2nd gen explorers come with tan interior like 1st gen EB?
i cant think of anything else right now, but if i have any more, i will surely ask. if yall can find pictures, write-ups, anything, ill surely appreciate!

There is someone here who has done it... I think it was a pretty involved process if I remember. I'll look for the thread.

95-01 dashes are the same..you would have to change the door panal's also...

well, i talked to asp84 about it on AIM, and well, its a way bigger project than i thought it to be. the firewall is completly different from the 1st gens to the 2nd gens. it would be easier to make a dash out of steel and fiberglass than do the swap i think. the end result would be cool, but if you dont have a donor ex, i dont think it would be worth it. but, this was an uneducated idea i had, and now i know! :D

you could swap firewalls =P

You might have to use a '95 dash. I don't know if the OBD makes any difference. I'd think it would work. Would the body from the front of the front doors back be the same for '91-'01?
