3.55 rear axle ratio

would a 3.55 rear ratio axle work with a 3.50 front ratio

Yes very well off of dry pavement. I am no expert, but I have heard of it, long ago. It is common long ago to have slightly different ratios F/R, that is about the limit which you mentioned. If the tires are typical big knobby treaded things, it wouldn't be noticeable at all. It only makes a big difference if you get on traction closer to pavement and tread like a shallow street tire.
