Has anyone ever considered dropping a 3.8 SC motor into their X? If not, just curious what everyone thinks of this.

Yes they have! I know of a Ranger running one.
The 3.8L SC is WIDER than a 5.0L = very difficult to fit.

the thought is if you are going to mess around with the 3.8L SC by the time you are finished you mine as well have built a SC 5.0L. The 5.0L is a much easier fit and can be done for less $$$ and time. The 5.0L is done all the time for a reason...

They guy with the 3.8L SC Ranger wishes he went 5.0L.....he also mounted the engine WAY back into the truck, it is a 2wd race truck built for the desert, so there is no dash or tranny tunnel anymore :)
I believe he does make 350 HP however :)

I agree, a 5.0 would be the way to go. However, I was asking because I have the 3.8 from an 89 SC. Does the guy who has one in his Ranger have a deatiled writeup about it?

No he does not and never will! I did get 2 pictures about a year ago from him however.
He is not online much.....

I may be wrong here but I heard one time from another site that the 3.8 sc was basically the same as a 5.0 with 2 cylinders "chopped off" The 3.8 sc has the same amount of horsepower and tourqe as a stock 5.0. Did I read it wrong somewhere else?

It is a chopped 5.0L block basically, yes.
Yes it can make plenty of power and reliable engine as well..

if you go to therangerstation they have a whole bunch of swap information..

Here is the link to the 3.8 swap info

and here is a link to the home page page therangerstation.com .. There is some good usefull information there.. Since the Explorer and the ranger share so much you can always find something good there..

Just Look on Paul Gagnon's web site. He *tried* to do this but then life smacked him and he had to fall back. He has some pics of the 4.0 and the 3.8 side by side.
