Hey everyone. I am a newbie to the board and I have an engine noise that I hope someone can help me identify.
I have a 2000 Explorer AWD with the 302. I get what sounds like a hard metallic noise from the engine.........more like a knock.......at around 60 mph and up..... under acceleration. If you let off on the throttle, it stops. The engine must be fully warmed up to do this. It is definitely speed or load related.....in other words it wont do it in first or second gears at the same RPM....... and the noise is definitely louder in warmer weather or when I am in the mountains. I am told it may be pre-ignition, but I have my doubts. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks
