My suv doesn't really fit this forum.. explorer4x4.com. and I have a 2x4 mountaineer.. but well.. its a '97 so its a clone...

At the time of purchase.. I couldn't get a 4x4 for the price and all I wanted.. long story

anyway.. my question is this: can you fit 31" BFG all terrains on stock 2x4 suspension without any modifications? I currently have the stock firestone wilderness ATs and they justdon't look good.. I'm thinking the BFGs and maybe some american racing rims might give me a more rugged look.. and since its 2x4.. all I can really do is a look

I think it will fit but I am not 100% sure. At least you are changeing the tires! Not sure if you have heard the hooror stories about the firestone tires, if not search this board and you will see what I mean. Also welcome to the site! Just a tidbit of info, with some gears and lockers I have seen some 2x4's do some really freeky stuff! Also take a peek at Brian greens Explorer in the featured Explorers. Looks great to me! Hope that helps

Go to a tire shop and ask them if you can try the 31s. They will most likely let you because they know that if it fits you're going to buy them and if they don't fit you'll probably buy some 30s.

thanks guys.. man.. I'm getting tired of people bashing suvs as "minivans" its really pissing me off! I've noticed the firestones have crappy wet traction on pavement.. but I've been told "they last a long time" which also seems bull because they are wearing down from cornering.. you suppose I could post pictures on this site? I mean.. I don't fit the profile.. but I'm tryin..

The only thing I have with the firestones is that they have a tendency to blow and have been know to kill people. when they blow the weight of the truck just wigs out and you roll. that is why I say swap those puppies out ASAP.

DarkFox1,

Not worry about your truck (I mean minivan ;) ) fitting the forum. We actually don't discriminate on this forum. We have many people on here who don't 4wheel and several who have 2x4s. So Welcome Aboard! :D I hope you get a lot of information and any help you need here.

hrmm.. that should be a good idea to convince my parents.. (I'll be 19 in august, the cars in their name)I was talking to them about switching.. they seem to think its a waste.. the tires I have now are about a year old.. but if I'm riding around on potential bombs..

thanks for the welcome.. finally.. people on the net besides me who like suvs :P

DarkFox1,

If you do a search, you'll find a whole thread about the Firestone tires. Then you can show it to your parents. I'm sure they wouldn't want you or themselves driving on bad tires.

31's will fit

If you're really in the mood to get rid of your F-stones get the BFG's and go 31". These will fit as I've seen them on some stock Explorers. Mountaineer is nothing else but an Explorer in some odd clothing. ;) I hope you know what I mean. There's guys here that have 4X2 trucks, should be 4X2 I gues otherwise it might be mistaken for some lumber, besides guys have 4X2's all dressed to kill. I've seen lifted trucks with 33's on them. It doesn't mean you have to take it into combat or anything. Some minor wheeling is still permitted. Do what you feel like and I and probably all here hope you'll find this place helpfull.

Good luck!
:D

very helpful so far.. this is second message board I've actually used.. I use sounddomains, but its not near as friendly.. as soon as I get some good pics of my car I'll try and put em up somewhere... have the current ones on my sounddomain page as shown in my signature, but.. I'm workin on it ;)

Thanks guys
