Plus moving the tire further from the ball joints (pivot point) will make the tire more further forward and back in the wheel well when you turn. So yes it would make it more likely to rub.
I advise against it also.
If its a DD i wouldnt run spacers unless you are TEDIOUS about checking them for torque and wear on other parts. If its a trail only rig...run them if you need them. I have them at all 4 corners on my toyota and have never had a problem with them. Tons of people run spacers and are fine. Dont let the theory that if you bolt spacers on and go to the grocery store your truck will blow up and you will kill a school bus full of nuns. Pay attention to them and take care of them and you will be fine.
