I am picking up a set of 31x10.50's tomorrow and am curious as to how badly they'll affect the stock 93 Explorer? Will the gears be fine? Is everything going to explode and the world end while I'm driving? Any insight would be awesome.

Thanks!

Depends on what gears you have. With 3.08's or maybe 3.27's they will be more noticable. with 3.73's or 4.10's they will be fine.

Stock Explorers do fine with 31's, but they might rub some if the suspension is a little low from spring sag due to age. Generally a 1.5-2" lift helps, you can either use spring spacers and shackles, or get lift springs for the front and an add-a-leaf for the rear.

Thanks! By chance could you point me to a decent set of springs?

Do you want lift springs or just replacements to restore the stock height?

You can use washers as spacers to lift the front end some, washers with a 1 3/8 hole and 3 inch outer diameter fit over the spring retainer nut and under the spring if you want to stack a few and lift the front end inexpensively.

You can also use F150 coil spacers to get 1.5-2" of lift: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344856

Otherwise Moog sells replacement springs, you can get them on Rockauto or ebay, and Skyjacker sells 2" lift springs, or a kit with the springs for the front and an add-a-leaf for the rear.

You can use Warrior Products WAR153 shackles to lift the rear about 1.5-2" as well, or just get some cheapo universal shackles at the parts store.

Generally the F150 spacers and WAR153 shackles give an even lift front/rear for not a lot of money. Just be sure to get an alignment afterwards.

Btw, Warrior shackles aren't too expensive, and I'd trust those any day over the universal cheapos. Worth the money from what I've seen. I'm gonna order some for me pretty soon. So my opinion is only from research done, not experience. Take that as you will.

I have 31. 10.50 15 on my stock explorer and havent had a problem they just barely rub on the sway bar when u turn real sharp. If there's a easy fix for that let me know

Check your gears. If they are 3.27's like all my X's were, 31's will suck. No HW power for passing, horrible gas mileage.

I had 31x10.5s on both my 91 and 93, the 93 had 3.27s and the 91 had 3.55s. Pretty doggy with the 3.27s, even noticable in low range. Also if you have auto hubs they will be destroyed in short order. No rubbing on either of mine though.

Our '92 couldn't run 31x10.50's on 15x7s. They would rub.

Keep in mind, the suspension had already sagged some by then. We had 140k miles on the X when we tried the 31's. We went with a Duff 2.5" lift for the 31's and used spacers plus that lift to fit 32's.

wheel spacers will fix the rubbing on the sway bar but might make u start rubbing on the fenders... its a give and take. I am running 34 inch tires now no lift no rub. And i was running 33s with stock 373 gears at 1 point, def no lack of torque to turn them. Going downhill was scarry though lol.

I can only find 5/16 inch spacers would that do.if not where could I find bigger spacers
