I'm considering putting 31x12.50 with 15x10 rims. I was worried about rub. Maybe a 2 in suspension lift from skyjacker? Anyone have any coments or pics like this?

Yeah, you will rub and that is a wide ass tire for it's height, it may look cool but I would say go with a 31x11.5 at the widest and go on a 8" rim even if you are going with 12.5" tire, unless you are going for a functionless, gangsta rap wide tire look.

any real suggestions?

Bobby,
I dont know why you feel my suggestion is not real. I have put a 2" skyjacker in an Explorer and I have seen the space provided. You asked for opinions and you got it.
You want a real suggestion:
Dont get 15x10s
dont get a 12.5 inch wide tire on a 2"lifted truck with only 31" of height
Dont ask opinions if you dont like mine.

I'm sure plenty of guys around here will agree that this is a useless setup, so be ready for a little criticism. I was trying to help you out since you are new here, and may not have seen many different setups. I really wanted a 15x10 rim at first and did plenty of research to find out that a 15x8 with 3.75" of backspacing will be functional and look good wether I run a 32, 33 or a 35 inch tire.

I ran the 31x10.5 on the stock rim with 2" SkyJacker and 2" body lift. The only rub I had was swaybar. I agree with Danny, go with a 10.5 on a 8" rim w/3.75 backspacing. You should be ok with the SkyJacker 2". If you go wider then a 10.5, you will be looking at rubbing on the sway, and rear fender well.

Wow. that is a really pissed Dannyboy! LOL...
Well, some people do not really want an opinion they just want you to say "That's a great idea, go for it".

Hey guys,
I didn't even know you could find a 31 x12.50 out there....

But - you won't fit it on a 10" rim with 2" of lift. I ran 3" of lift with 31x10.50's on stock rims - can't go much larger or wider without trimming things like fenders, swaybars, radius arms - little things like that.

BlackTxlorer - if you were really talking about a 12.50 on a 10" rim with 2+/-" of lift, they are all right - you will rub - even with wheel spacers. Gotta get the fenders higher than that to clear a tire that wide...

WEll well well.... Okay, you can run a 31x12.5 on a 15x10 rim... but it would suck! 15x8 would be better. I bet you could run a 31x12.5 w/ 4in of lift. I had the Skyjacker 4in class II lift w/ 31x10.5's on stock rims and had tons of room...

I have a quick question. Why would it be a useless setup? It really just depends on use, which no one has addressed. A short, wide tire like a 31 x 12.50 might be ideal in sand, where floatation is more important than ground clearance. You would get the width advantage a 33 or 35 without the need for a gear change or a monster lift.

Pro - Comp, Mickey Thompson, and Interco have wide 31's with widths from 11.00 to 15.50. BFG makes a a/t and m/t 325/60, which is basically the same size as a 31x 12.50. The smallest rim recommended is a 15x9 for the BFG's.

They might be OK for street use with a little lift, but they will most likely rub sometimes. How are they going to be used?

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong...

I wasn't trying to piss anyone off. It just seemed to me that the statement useless and gangsta rap look didn't seem like something I could take serious. The reason I thought it wouldn't have a problem working is you see these guys running 33's on 15x10 rims but they have to have such a large lift. I have to drive too much to put 33's on it. But I wanted a mean wide and aggressive look of the 12.50's. My buddy had 31x12.50's on his Z71 and they seemed fine. I was considering ADVANTAGE 93 rims in 15x10, they look like American Racing Pythons but in a 15x10; and 31x12.50 Explorer Procomp MT's or SSR's. I drive on sand street and some mud. Thanks for all the suggestions.

So yall recomend 31x10.50's for the most part. I guess I could go for those wheels in a 15x8.5. How does that sound

Where are these 31x15.5's that you speak of? The widest I know of off hand are 31x12.5....maybe a 13.5..... never have i seen a 31x15.5
Please....help me out here understand this
Pete

Mickey thompson makes the widest i've seen. I know they have 31.13.50's in the baja hp's and the baja belted. You can Thornbirds in 31x13's maybe boggers too.

Hey dannyboy, how did you mount those tow hooks?

According to the national wheel and tire add
Mickey Thompson has Baja Belted at 31x13.5's and Baja Belted HPs at the same.
Thornbirds are 31x12.5's and boggers are the same
Swamper SX's are 31x13.5

Just thought I'd clear that according to the most current National Wheel and Tire ad

And you'd wanna do 31x10.5 on 15x8's That's the most common and easiest

Towhooks-
went to GM and told them I needed 2 towhooks for a full size chevy, cut the mounting plate in half(or could have used nuts, but I wanted more surface), got out my dremel and went nuts on the airdam, and drilled holes in my frame and mounted em up. Took a while longer than I expected, but I had crappy bits and wanted it done good so I took my time.

My mistake on the 15.50's.

The 15.50's do not show up on their web site, so I guess they quit making them. I was fliping through an old Fourwheeler (Aug. 2000) mag and they were in there. The M/T baja elted HP's in a 31x15.5 15 were $187.95 from 4wheel parts.

One could go with some LT rated Pro-street tires...

31x18.50 15 or perhaps even a 33x21.50 15.

I don't think that would look quite right, though.

I'm selling my explorer. Yall check it out under For Sale and Wanted.
