Will 33 inch BFG AT's fit in the spare tire well under the explorer?

nope...

From what I've seen, I'm gonna have to work to get a 31" in there.
You can air down the spare but even then I don't think a 33" will fit.

I probably didn't work hard enough then, cause i couldn't even get my 31" in there.....from what i hear you have to cut some peices out and bend stuff to make it work. I didn't feel like working that hard.....hehehe...i know im lazy ;)

snug-o-matic

Riffman,
Here's my plan...
Deflate my 31 spare, which has just a bit of tread on it (smaller). Crank it up in there working it in. Then, air it up to max plus about 10-15 psi. Last, drop the pressure to normal and see if I can get it to come out with or without a prybar.

I belive that Paul Sabin has a 32" BFG Mud under his. He runs 33's so that was the closest I think he could get. I also know he has a smitty built rear bumper which gives more room under there.

31" BFG AT fits no problem... (at least on our 1992 XLT).. but our 32" spare had to be at 10psi to get it to fit. We carry an air compressor all the time just in case we have to use the spare.. I don't think a 33" will work. The 32" tire gets close enough to the rear end during flex.. I think a 33" tire will hit or get very very very close to it..

I'm running a brand new 31" BFG AT KO under my 94 sport with no problem. Paul Sabin I believe has only a 31" Firestone under his truck.
