The easiest way to tell the Windsor and the Cleveland apart is by the rocker arm covers. Providing they are stock! The Cleveland cover has a raised area on the end, where the oil fill hole and the PCV are located and each cover is held down with 8 fasteners. The Windsor is flat all the way across the top and it is held in place with 5 fasteners. Another way to tell it that the radiator hose/t-stat on the Windsor enters through the intake, where as on the Cleveland it does not.
As for getting better performance from the Windsor, start with a good dual exhaust, aluminum 4bbl intake and carb, headders, electronic ignition and a free flow air filter. Is that isn't enough try a good valve job with some mild proting and polishing and while its appart drop in a new cam and good timing chain.
Good luck beating that stupid Bowtie!
