I have a question. When i drive from about 35-45mph my steering wheel shakes back and forth like crazy, and then after 45 its fine. I've taken to many places and everyone is saying something different. One place said I had to replace my whole gear box, while repacing the end joints of my tie rods. Another said i would have to 180 my tires and get a steering stabilizer. Another said I just needed an alignment. I don't know who to believe. Can anyone help me out? Has anyone had this problem? I would appreciate any advise. Thanks, Jared

Usaully that is either an idler arm, or tierod end, in your case the tie rod end, jack the wheel up and try squeezing together with a big pair of channel locks. Also could be wheel bearing, which you would feel more thru the brakes.

We have the same symptom on our 1992..

Turns out in our case, the sector shaft is loose (it moved side to side now) . So I am going to replace my steering box.
