I'm going to go with 35's on my explorer. I currently have 3.73 gears on there. Do I have to go to a different gear ratio immediately? Can I just wait out the bad gas milage and performance until I have a chance to get different ones. I'm planning on going to 4.56 gears.

here is my x with a tired worn out 4.0 with 3.73's and 35's it is no hot rod but it goes and goes. and not there really isnt that much room between the wheel and fender thats just my Herculiner wheel flares that give it that look!

I have precision gears in mine right now. Haven't had a problem yet.

I had genuine gears in it before and was finding alot of metal in the gear fluid. Switched brands and haven't found a prob yet.

I ran 3.27's for about 6 months before switching to 4.56's. I love the change, but you will be fine until you can drop in the new gears. MadMike - did you paint your front D35 or is it just the way the light is hitting it?

For fun - here is mine with 35's, trimmed front fenders and so on...

It would be nice if you were coming to Moab, I would like to see that with no cutting on 35's. I know we will give it a good workout when you come to Colorado. I bet you will hit then!!!!

Just wait until you try going up one of the passes in the mountains and you will be cussing up a storm....
I was doing that with just 33's and 3.73 gears.

Well Perry you got me there. At full stuff I rub. Very little! BUT by the time July comes around and the CO run is up I'll have the fiberglass on so I won't worry about rubbing.

Switch

Well, tomorrow is the big day. The tires will be in, and I will have pictures for all of you. Hopefully my 2001 will look as good as your explorers with the 35's. I might have to crank my torsion bars up to normal now, or maybe even higher. I'll let you know.
Thanks for all the help.

you could get glass and have major clearance.... but you might not need it......
