Ok so I'm trying to mod a old led drop light that I have. I'm wanting to build a led 3rd brake light out of it. It has 23 leds and 13 resistors. I am trying to find out what I need to change the resistors to so that it will work with 12v. It originally ran on 3.6v. So I traced the traces and it goes positive to a resistor then resistor to positive of 2 leds and then ground. It looks like I need to take 12v down to 3v.

You'll need to know the value of the resistors. Most LED's work off of 3.6vdc even in a 12v system. To drop the 12v down for the LED's you would need a total of 450-500 ohms. So figure out what you have already, deduct it from 500 and that's what you'll need to add.

OK thanks so I need 500 ohms. I'm just going to take the old resistors out they are only like 10 ohms.

You could leave them inline. 510 ohms is fine.

Well today I ordered 500 count of 470 ohm resistors and 500 led's. I'm going to build some custom 3rd brake lights and see how it turns out.

Standing by......................

The resistors should be here in a few days. Whey they get here I will mod the led drop light I have and see how that looks first.
