3rd gen light bulbs

I am beginning to replace my bulbs with siverstars and zenons but am having problems getting an exact size for my license plate bulbs. I have searched this forum and am getting two numbers, 168 & 194, but I am having difficulty knowing if those nunmbers are for 2nd gen or 3rd gen. Also, I assume this is the number for the stock bulb, does anyone know the nnumber for the silvania silverstar version of this bulb, or possibly a zenon repalcement? Thank you for your help and I apologize if this was mentioned prior, I just keep getting confusing searches.
