Only makes the clicking/popping noise sometimes, and it's when Im turning the wheel while moving very slowly.
It's not TOO audible, but it's noticable.

Mine did the same thing and they had to replace the ring and pinion gear in it. Hope it is not as bad as that but maybe that will help you some.

i know what your talking about...

i have the same thing right now...

i was told by FORD the other day when i had my FUEL PUMP replaced, that the random clicking noise is coming from my BRAKE HARDWARE...

i didnt have it fiixed cause my warranty does not cover my brakes...

but the TECH said that its not a major saftey issue for me and said it doesnt need to be fixed right away... he said its up to you n your tolerance for the annoying random clicking...

so ill have it fixed next paycheck, but for now i just turn up the stereo and dont notice it, but it will be fixed most importantly... when i get the funds...

hope this might help you out...

Ok, now an update... Did some decent driving today and it went from riding pretty decently (for 24's) to now when I turn the wheel going slow, I feel a slight vibration when I turn left, and nothing when I turn right. (when going slow)

When I'm driving, I hear almost what sounds like an air plane in the distance noise (but that could be my tires, they're BRAND new and they're low pros anyway). When I brake, it makes LIGHT squeaking noises, and now it vibrates left right left right a LITTLE when going 40, when it didn't before.

It isn't the wheels, they are not bent, been down the road 100x with that, hit no potholes whatsoever, it worked fine earlier.

Tie rod? Hub bearing? Explorer's are just loud (these may be things im noticing more out of paranoia) but now it seems the steering is a little different than it was, I can't explain it.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

answer to fixing clicking noise in suspension!!!

Hey wassup! First of all i have an 03 eddie bauer and my brother has an 02 xlt and we both encountered the same problem .... He took it to multiple mechanics and they couldnt find anything so i did some research on my own! I brought my truck in my friends shop and he tore the whole rear right suspension out looking for this noise and he found a bunch of things it could have been comin from such as lower control arm ball joints and bushings, track bar, upper ball joints ... Man i mean it was like $1000 just parts so he greased and tightend everything up and told me to that he got rid of the noise that it will soon come back untill i fix everything but sure enouph 2 min later there was the noise again so he pulled it back took the tire off in front of me and started looking very frustrated and i asked him if he checked the brakes and he said he did then i remembered replacing the emergency parking brake shoes so i pointed to the drum and asked him if he took the rotor off to check the shoes and there it was the answer to a million explorer owners!!! The actual meat on the shoes unrivits it self and completly seperates itself from the metal base of the shoes so when your driving at a decent speed youll never here it but when you slow down they fall down in the rotor and clack with each other sounds crazy but thats the problem!!! Just change your parking brake shoes!!!!

mine's coming fromt he front, same thing?

I thought mine was coming from the front too but come to find out it was the rear differential.

Im positive this noise is comming from the front, I was outside in the front of the car while my friend was driving it, but that wouldn't surprise me either.

the arking brake issue that was mention'd could be my issue that i have right now...

FORD said it had something to do with my BRAKE HARDWARE

Hmmm... would make sense I was ROUGH on my brakes on afew different stops recently

Turns out I'm a moron, I got a flat tire... These low pro's are tricky didn't see it last night but when I filled it up, everything is fixed except for the clicking on the front right wheel well.

My old explorer made popping and clicking noises constantly, so it may not be a big deal.

Now the question is how did the air get out? No evidence of a screw or nail, and I didn't see any bends in my wheel. Im confused.

It's held air for an hour and a half now, so we'll see.

if you start a new thread, you may have more luck. This thread doesn't get very many hits :) Much less likely you'll get your info. I have no idea, or I'd be happy to assist you! :)

I have same problem, is this something I should get fixed right away or can I let it slide for awhile?

There are no rear upper control arm / ball joints available anywhere.
Ford is looking for another supplier. Expect at least a month or 2 delay if you order at the dealer now.

Just found the rear upper control arms at https://www.oreillyauto.com
$205 a piece. Ordered yesterday - got shipping confirmation email today with tracking number.

But I think I got the last 2 as the site how says "out of stock"

wow this sucks lol.

Now th enoise is mor eof a clicking noise...

if it is the e-brake pads then check them out asap. i had my rear lock up because the peice of pad that fell off jammed between the inside of the rotor and the ebrake system. i ended up pulling it apart on the side of the road to remove the broken pad and taking it to the dealer with what was left of the wrecked pads on it. it jammed up enough that it loked my wheel up so be careful. this happened to mine at about 45xxx-50xxx miles.

kinda a dumb question but did you check your half shafts? any torn boots or anything?

Yeah I agree... clicking would make be believe its the axles up front...
