4.0 Exhaust Clip Thread !

Ya I could tell the mic on the camera was cutting out some of the bass but it gave me a pretty good idea. It sounds good man :D

O and no CHeck engine light it turned on and every thing runs right no warning lights or nothing. You were right though its ALOT deeper than it was before but you put it right when you said they sound sloppy. Im suppose to be getting a check in next week so When I do I plan on going back in and having them put in a super 40. Im like you I want it to sound aggresive and as meen as I can get it. So far though it already sounds alot better, its louder and deeper which is what I expected to get in the first place. I was really disipointed when I had it put on cause it wasnt really that loud and it wasnt that deep so I wasnt impressed. It kidna shocked me cause every other vehicle i have put a Flowmaster on alwasy sounded good, and a buddy of mine from work put a 44 on his 07 Eclipse GT and it sounded wicked so I expected it to sound better than it did on my X.

O and the kid in the video was cute lol he looked like my Nephew lol.

I think the v8s do have 4 I know my buddys mastang actually has 6 cats on his car.

I know my v6 only has 2 though.

Ah nice, so you have the OHV then. The ohv is actually a deeper motor than the SOHC. Here is a video of an explorer with the Super 40 on it and your motor. I think youll like it

Ya that does sound good. Well i wasnt able to get the videos to load not sure what the problum is, could be that my digi cam is just to crappy lol dont know but I will try to get some sound clips here soon just so you can see what it sounds like now.

crazy did u get the sound clip of ur exhaust yet

No not yet cant find any one with a vid-cam that i can use. Im problulby going to buy one next week so as along as every thing goes right I will post some clips next week. I think my Digi-cam cant produce a video that of decent enuph quality for photobucket or youtube to use lol. And I may be changing out my muffler next week with a super 40 also. If I do I will try to get a video clip of both, but I will problubly wait till the 40 breaks in.

crazy what kind of yellow fogs did u get for ur x.

me i just got yellow window film and put it over my stock fogs eventually i am going to get the 3000k yellow hid fogs to replace my fogs.

I forget the name. I picked em up at walmart and they work pretty good, alot better than the stocks fogs. I use to pickup up replacment bulbs that were 100 watts when i lived in alaska ( I have used these same fogs on 3 diffrent trucks always worked well for me) and they work awsome ... i will have to go dig em up. THey are just cheep walmart fogs but for the price they work pretty good.

I just got my exhaust done thanks to this post, i went with a dual in dual out cherry bomb vortex muffler dumped about a foot after the muffler, it is MUCH louder than i thought it would be but it sounds amazing, if i were to add a tailpipe instead of running it dumped would it tone down a little?

how do u like the sound and how big is the exhaust and how much did it cost ya

I don't have duals but I had the shop turn down the tailpipe right at the last hanger by the bumper to keep it hidden. I think it turned out great!

looks good 97shogt how does it sound

I've got a question for any exhaust pro's. Is there any way I can run true duals on my 96? I've got dual straights already but its with a little custom Y-pipe the guy at the muffler shop made. I wanted to go true dual at first but there's a cat with the 02 sensor in it that kept me from getting the true duals. And I don't want to anything that would throw a DTC. Any input??

I love the sound of the vortex sam, but i feel like its a little too loud....i.e. setting off car alarms as i drive by, would adding the tail pipe tone it down a little? total with muffler it was about 160 and id call that a steal:)

Holy Freaking crap! I thought this thread was gonna help me make a decision...NOT! i am more confused than ever.

I have an '02 XLS 4.0 SOHC that i want to add a moderate amount of oomph.

Cost is a factor and overall loudness, but drone at fwy speed is most important since the wife will drive on occassion. Im looking to just change the muffler only.

When i had my F150 v6 i put a Dynomax Bullet race muffler on it. It was FREAKING LOUD, but the gains were impressive! Much to loud for the application now!

I've read alot of negative things about flowmasters, but i came across a barley used 70 series for 35 bucks. I don't know f it's better to go with a cherry bomb turbo or the summit brands since they're cheap?

I'll have to go over this thread a few more times, but any suggestions would be great!

Scott

Previous owners of my 01 sport had the dual 70 series flowmasters on and I didnt like how it sounded it sounded to quiet. And I got rid of them and put the dual 40 series flowmasters and it sounds much louder and deeper. I am very happy with the 40 series but I might get rid of them and maybe put super 44s but I dunno yet.

Or maybe slp loudmouth exhausts I dunno yet.

Dynomax bullet race muffler showed impressive gains because it is a straight thru muffler meaning it flows close to a straight pipe. Dont expect this from a flowmaster since it uses sound baffles.

With that said, you dont want drone on the highway correct?

There are two mufflers that I can suggest from personal experience that will give you the straight thru muffler gains plus wont drone at highway speeds but will still give you sound.

1) Hooker Max Flow- I ran this muffler catless so it got loud, but no where near as loud as my flowmaster 40 series. While cruising it was silent. Accelerating it got loud and if you got WOT, it screamed. Various tests have shown this muffler flows up there with the big boys (bassani) and is cheap. Im assuming if you keep the cats, this muffler will be pretty quiet.

2) Dynomax Super-Turbo- I have a friend at work with this on his avenger and its pretty quiet. The ONLY time you hear it is on hard acceleration. It flows pretty good as well. This will be quieter than the muffler above

Dont go with the cheap turbo mufflers- those flow like crap. They are cheap for a reason

Finally got something put in

one of my friends had this muffler lying around, it's a original 40 series, It drones at about 3k accelerating and at 2300-2700 but it's not nearly as bad as the three weeks i had the muffler off. i love it. Enjoy.

start up idle, slow 3k rev and let off

start up to 4k immediately
