4.0 Exhaust Clip Thread !

Because the way i see it, this is true dual's.
without connecting the 2 pipes.
I think it will sound better this way because i like the sound of the cylinders firing
left side of the car, then the right side, left, right, left, right and so on.
because the firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6 if i am correct.
I think the sound will be more agressive.
No doubt it will perform better with a balnce pipe, but i think it would only be 1 hp or so :P

But dual 2.25 inch pipes will be enough?, even if i decide to supercharge it in the future to get something like 300 hp (or more :P)?

A balance pipe will help your engine run smoother, and I personally think it sounds better. I know every one I have talked to that is involved in profesional racing blown or not say that a balance pipe down the road is always better to have. It keeps your exhaust flowing better I believe. ALso an X pipe is better for HP than an H pipe.

That's all a matter of opinion, when i had an 87 mustang, there was a lot of debates on what was better H or X, and there really is no difference, the main difference is sound, where as an H has a raspier sound then an X. if there is a difference as far as HP, it's 1-2 max.

^ Ya I know, Just from what I have read and info I have gathered in the past it has always seemed to have more, but like you said 1-2 not really much.

Dual 2.25" pipes will be plenty for what your looking for, blown or not. My truck is pushing 260 hp stock and I'm running 2.25" duals. Without the balance pipe, your not going to get the sound your looking for, it will probably be very raspy and the tone may not be as deep as your looking for. You will still be true duals with the pipe, your exhaust will sound better, and it will perform better. I can definitely feel a difference switching from a dual in/single out muffler to the dual in/dual out.

sounds nice shen keep up good work

Just hoping it'll get past DEQ now lol. Going to get some plugs, wires, fuel and oil filters and an oil change next week. Hopefully that will stop the weird Idle sometimes.

But I'm happy with it. It's near silent at cruising speed, sounds good at take off and screams at WOT. Idle is cool too, sounds stock but you can tell it's not.

so i just got my flowmaster 50 suv installed on thursday, with 2.5 inch pipes from the cats back. apparently my stock pipes were 2 inchers, not 2.25. it sounds better and feels like i got some power, but it's a lot quieter than i thought it would be. i listened to a ton of clips before i decided, and i didn't want it to crazy loud like the 40 series sounded, but not quiet either. hm. oh well, i like it still, maybe it will get a little louder as time goes on.

Are you running duals or a single pipe? I originally ran the 50 series SUV with dual 2.25" pipes and it was pretty quiet/mellow.

The good thing is flowmaster have the infamous break in period. Wait a month and see how much you like it

Sounds good actually, I was suprised! Nice

Yeah I was suprised it sounded so good. Not bad for a 1hr chop and weld job. Even more suprised my phone picked up the sound so well lol. I put new spark plugs in friday, it's got a little more bang now. :D

It's probably quited down quite a bit since you still have the cat(s) on. And there usually is a break in time, around a week or so.

^ it took mine about 2 weeks to break in, was definitly alot louder when it did break in though but was still to quiet for me.

i figured so... it's a single pipe. the guys asked if i wanted the cat removed after the 02 sensors but we have the emission tests here in CO so i didn't know if it would pass or not.... i like the sound, so hopefully it does just get a bit louder.

do u got pics of the flowmaster installed jen

nope not yet.. i can probably snap a few tonight and post em up.

alright sounds good jen

Do you know exactly the muffler type? As in center in/off set out or what exactly is it? Also, is the muffler welded or clamped in?

Side note about the cats, Ive read the v8 guys removing the cats after the o2 sensors and passing emissions. Im glad we dont have emissions here in FL as im running an offroad Y pipe

My flowmaster super 40 took about a month to break it. Much louder now

Are you thinking about getting a new muffler? I personally thought the super 44 was too sloppy sounding. It was also quiet with the cats on. Cats off is a whole new ball game. Super 40 is quieter and smoother then the 44. My 44 was on for about 2 days and now lays in my shed collecting dust

Since I gutted the cats its fine. I persanally like the sound. I thought about having a super put on but right now I have other things that need the money and changing out mufflers would be kinda of a waste of money so for now im sticking with the 44. Eventually I would like to have a single in duel out muffler put on and if I do that I will problubly have em put on a 40, but for now the 44 will do :D
