4.0 SOHC Owners - What is your Avg. MPG and.... ??

2001 Sport, 2wd, auto, 15K miles, no other mods except Apten chip burned for 91 octane.
>>Before chip: 95% city 14-16avg.
Don't really know what the gains would be (moderately driving) with the chip, b/c I can't stop flooring it!:D I should expect 18avg.

Please tell me what's going on!!!

I'm finding myself at the pump every 200 miles(10-12mpg). I'm not driving agressively, but moderately. My only mods are listed below. The apten chip might be screwed up b/c my curious friend flipped the switch into stock mode while the engine was running. My throttle response is as sluggish as stock and I have no passing power. I'm thinking that might be it, b/c before my friend tinkered with it, I was getting like 18mpg (that was w/stock wheels tho). Still have the stock 3.73s, but 31" tires now. I really don't think the tires are giving me all this misery. I welcome all your responses. Thanks.

15-16 mpg (50/50 highway/city)

SOHC, 4x4, KKM, lowered 2", 265/70-15 tires, stock gear, stock exhaust, no chip, well maintained, and light footed. :)

Factory Sticker - Gas Mileage

According to the factory sticker on my 1996 XLT it states:

CITY MPG 15 HIGHWAY MPG 20

Actual mileage will vary with options, driving conditions, driving habits and vehicle's condition. Results indicate that the majority of vehicles will achieve between 12 and 18 mpg in the city and between 17 and 23 mpg on the highway

Remember FORD needs to get the highest possible gas mileage, so I imagine that these numbers are the best you could expect to get, for this years model.

I'm driving a '98 Limited...totally stock 4wd and I'm getting around 21mpg around town and about 23.5 mpg on the highway...sitting on 70mph with cruise on.

As you can see from the graph even the average varies with use. This was taken over 10,000 miles mostly country roads and city driving.
fuel.jpg

Overall average is 15.7 mpg and the best 22.3 mpg. Running stock motor with 3.73 gears.

2000 XLT 4.0 SOHC 3.73 LS
Auto

18-20 mpg
75% Highway, 25% City

1997 Limited 4WD 3.55 gears

18-19 city
22 highway over the last 4 months and 6000 miles in atlanta traffic. But i do have a light foot and 15 inch wheels.

15 inch wheels would offer less rolling resistence so they might contribute to higher MPG....

1997 might have different emissions etc....

I made the year note because my user name says i have a 2000 which i dont...i have a 1997 now.

varies. 12 to 18 mpg. depending if i am late or not.

KKM

What gas mileage should I expect to see after a KKM air filter? (see sig. below)

With my KKM and magnaflow I got at MAX 2 MPG on the highway.. I've also gotten 14.3 on I70 across Kansas with these mods. This summer with 30" tires and 2" susp, KKM, Magnaflow I was getting 17.5-20 on the highway with 20.6 being the best i've ever seen.

NOW....

I'm crap. 2" BL, 2" susp 32" tires, nothing but city driving. Scratch that, 50/50 on/off road b/c I only drive to the mountainbike/4x4 trails and back.

I'm getting like 12-13

I'll get some highway numbers sometime. Problem is my odo is off by 19 miles per 300 mile trip due to the increased tire size.

1993 Explorer Limited 2WD OHV engine around 21-22 MPG on the highway all factory stock. Current mileage at 203,000.

And

1997 Explorer Limited 2WD SOHC engine around 23-24 MPG on the highway all factory stock. Current mileage at 90,000.

I'm a daily highway driver... I cruise around 65-70MPH and it save fuel rather going faster than 80MPH. Due to the cost of California gasoline, and limited budget, I am conserving fuel thats why I have higher MPG's.

with intake and exhaust and stock tires i was getting like 275 or 300 miles out of a tank. with 31's and 3 inches of lift i was getting like 250 to 275 out of a tank. Now with my first week of 35's im getting i think around 200 out of a tank with stock gears. My 4.56's are comming soon and i hope to get back to like 275
