4.0 swap with 4.0sohc

Does anybody know if it's possible to swap a 4.0 out of a '93 with the 4.0sohc engine with out replacing the transmission?

My wife's 98 XLT SOHC has a 5-spd electronically controlled auto. I simply cannot imagine it swapping successfully without the specific transmission and without all the associated electronics.

It looks _very_ different underneath than the 4.0 OHV, and I wonder if the bolt patterns are even the same. I would bet an easier swap would be for a 5.0L out of a truck or Mustang/T-Bird.

My wife loves the power, but a swap sounds like a nightmare. Good luck!

I heard that the Explorer 4.0 SOHC Came with the 4 speed Auto at one time with the 5 speed Auto as an option...
