On my way home from work Thanksgiving eve I heard a PHFTTT sound and my engine died (literally). After trying to start it unsuccessfully I called for a tow to my Ford dealership. They say the engine needs to be replaced and they are going to ask the BOSS (FORD MOTOR CO) to give them the OK. The engine is the 4.0L SOHC with 67,000 miles on it. Has any other of you guys or gals had a similar problem with their 4.0L SOHC engine Any response will be appreciated.
Thanks, RAZOR

Eek! Oh no, here come the SOHC bashers... *sighs* I'm sorry to hear about that man! The good thing is that you will get a brand-new SOHC engine, which has fixed all of the problems in the first few years. I have 80K on mine and no problems.

did the dealership even tell you what made it grenade? with only 67k miles there had to be something seriously wrong...

wonder if the timing chain tensioners failing would do that? If thats what happened it seems to destroy valves etc...

I remember someone here had a camshaft (or crankshaft, can't quite recall which) snap and kill the engine. I think pictures were posted too......

4.0L SOHC ENGINE FAILURE

Sorry to keep some of you people in suspense about my proposed engine replacement by Ford Motor Co. but I am in the same position. Now they have a company tech coming to do tests on the engine before they'll authorize a new motor. Doesn't sound very encouraging! Have to give them a call this coming week to know the results.

If they try to deny coverage, dont hesitate to call a Ford rep. They tried to tell my friend the crank on his STOCK mustang split in two because he had never changed the oil in 25k miles..... I'm thinkin the oil wouldnt even flow after that long. He called a Ford rep and went back to the dealer..they apologized and said his new engine, trans and rear end were on the way and he had another 25k miles added to his warranty

I"m getting a new engine!

Called the Ford dealer today to get a progress report on my X. Service manager said he would have to contact Ford again to see what their intentions were. Originally Ford was to have some tests done on my engine. When confronted by the service manager as to procedure Ford asked the dealer to do the testing. The service manager told them he did not have the (special) equipment they requested and that his supplier didn't either. Ford authorized a replacement engine. Prayer really does work!!!
