First of all, anyone know what the stock gears are on the 1997 SOHC model??? If not 4.10 gears stock, where should I get them, and around how much?? Is it worth the modfication????

One other question, anyone experience poorer fuel consumption with the addtion of a K&N filtercharger intake kit???

Thanks!!

There are about 5 different axle ratios Ford used on the '97 SOHC ranging from 3.27 to 4.10 depending on tire size, transmisison and whether or not you have the tow package. Look at the 2-digit code inside your driver's door in the box labeled "axle". Then do a search for axle ratio and you will find out what yours has.

I didn't gain nor loose any MPG when I put on my FIPK. I picked up a little bit of top end horsepower though.

I dont think i gained or lost any milage either, but i do know for sure that i did pick up top end power and get a nicer sound altogether.

Thanks to the both of you....!! just one other question... where's the best place to order the filtercharger intake K&N kit.... cuz its goin for 380 canadian..... crazy...... compared to other intake prices...

one yeah one more question for you all......
does it really matter whether or not i get the intake arm as well?? i mean some companies sell it with the intake arm tube, and all the clamps, the intake filter, and etc..... or should i just stick with the stock intake tube arm and just get the filter only???? suggestions??? help!! thanks!

On a mostly stock motor the intake tube doesn't really make a difference, it's mainly for looks. The reason the KKM is cheaper is that it doesn't come with the tube, and it's not officially emissions certified. I don't know if you have to worry about emissions certification and inspections in Canada, but many members have gotten around this by just putting a K&N sticker on their KKM intake. The inspection guys can't tell the difference.

Oh and saleensr, I suggest filling out your truck model and location in your profile. Then it will show up under your username when you post. This makes it easier for people to answer your posts and know what you're talking about.

thanks a lot!!! gonna just get the filter only then!! maybe i'll just stick with the K&N kinda worried about purchasing it from KKM

Many members have purchased kits from kustomz and I think most enjoy good customer service. The KKM will be better than just the KN drop in replacement filter.

but is there a real difference between KKM and K&N??? cuz they both are just offering the cone filter to attach to your intake. and K&N is cheaper too..

where did you find a KN FIPK for cheaper than the KKM?

well doesn't KKM only give you the filter??? they don't supply you the piping right??? the k&N FIPK comes with everything!!!

i was just comparing the filters themselves..

KN drop in: direct filter replacement, stock airbox (30-50)
KN FIPK gen I: large conical filter and mounting stuff, adapter plate (150-200)
KKM: large conical filter and mounting stuff, adapter plate (100)
KN FIPK gen II: gen I + new intake tube and small heatshield (200-300)

If you can find a FIPK for less than the KKM, then go for it. But I have a feeling you're confusing the drop-in with the FIPK kit.

thanks alec.... yeah i talked to "robert" and he acutally went with the older FIPK model filter. Think im gonna do that since i don't want the whole intake arm, heat shield, etc.......

thanks!

Hey Alec, or anyone... take a look at this intake on ebay... i was seriously considering on purchasing it.. think its worth it??? think its safe to purchase this?

If you want to pay $70 more than the KKM just for the shiney tube.

yeah i guess i could look for the tube after... but then i'll have to loook for the right adaptors, brackets and connecotrs......

What is wrong with your stock tube?

BTW: I have no idea what a SOHC intake tube looks like
