Your going to have to find 2 different explorers. The 4.10's only came on the v6 models, mostly eddie bauers, and sports. The v8's all have 3.73 gears.

The V6s, They still come with 8.8 L/S (POSI) Disc Brakes right??
The V6s Ive seen have had 3.73s n 3.55s... What is the tag on
the door Gear Codes??? Like a V6 E.B. have 4.10s??? I know that
the XLT V6 has 3.73s n 3.55s... Can someone School me on them??

Thanx,
Rob

All the explorers from 95 and up have rear discs, except for the sports and sport tracs, they have drums. Explorers came with open, and l/s diffs it just depends on the various options and packages. Here is a link to an axle code chart so you can tell what an explorer has in it by looking at the sticker on the door.

...The Explorer axle codes with 8.8 and 4.10's are...
D2 (LS)

...The Ranger axle codes with 8.8 and 4.10's are...
97 (open)
F7 (LS)
R7 (LS)

well my 96 eb has a 42 Axle code 4.10. I'm surprised it don't have a trac-lok axle however.

4.10 gears aren't mentioned in my owners manual. But towing capacity seems to increase greatly with each step "down" in gears. From what I see it is a great upgrade for towing. Also, off the line pickup/acceleration is great on this truck. I tried an 2008 V8 at a dealer and the initial pickup wasn't THAT much better. It had much higher (lower numerically gearing) I forget exactly which. Downside is high revving on the freeway, probably an MPG penalty too.

my 00 sport 4x4 has discs all the way around.

it also has 4.10 gears and a L/S in the rear

and that's all from the factory. so if you do some digging in the junkyards you should find one.
