If I run 4.88's with my 31X10.50's would that cause any negative driving effects or will I be okay for a short time ( a week or two) until I get some 35's on?

will be fine... might be pushing some high rpms on the freeway, but shouldnt be too bad for a week or two

That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks.

If you don't mind your top speed being 70 :p

eh, no need to go any higher ;) if you want to go fast, buy a car

with 4.88s a V8 and 31"s you better go out and do some rice hunting from light to light. Also better get a picture of a 4 wheel burn out as well on your old 31"s :D

That was my thought when I saw the thread title :burnout:

HAHA :D But the 4 wheel burnout would be a little difficult since I don't have a front driveshaft or differential. :( Had some issues with a "popping" sound that I thought was the front gears, but when I cracked open the front diff everything seems to look fine, no busted or chipped gears or metal shavings, and everything can be turned with one finger so I still don't know what was causing it. But now that the front diff is removed, I no longer have that problem. However, I can already do a 2WD burnout on the current tires, they're a little worn. :D I'll be ordering an ARB locker for the 8.8 next week, once that arrives I'll be getting the regear done about two weeks later, along with the 35's. Then it's time to concentrate on the front D44 build-up.

i Hope you converted to 2wd spindles and wheel bearings... i believe Jefe had problems running about with no diff and CV's.

BTW the popping was prolly your CV shafts.

He doesn't need to, he's about to go SAS. Seriously, pictures of the burnouts!

 4.88s and 31s -- WOW!

Still running the 4WD spindle and bearing, just using the outer stub of the CV to hold it together like Jefe did. It's working fine for about a month or so now.

im running 32's on 4.56 hehe

thats powerful enough for me. i can spin around like a RC truck

ill try to help out with the RPM situation

at 65 i hit 2500 rpm. 75 i hit like 2850 rpm. round off about 2900 make it easy

i think with 31's that number would go up to like, 2700 rpm at 65. Add an extra tooth or two on the ring gear for 4.88 and id say at 65 you will be hitting ~3000 rpm in Overdrive.

have fun, hahah id get a locker in there too, you will have so much fun for a little while.

EDIT!!!:

wait a minute. 4.88's on a V8?!?!?!

a bronco with a 302 can push 35s with 4.10 gearing all day long no problem!

4.88 isnt going to be too much is it?

According to all the research I've done on here, PBB, and a few other sites 4.88's seem to be what I want for 35/36's.

hrmm maybe. It does seem like a bit much though for a 5.0. You got enough power already, the horsepower will accomidate for the tire change

4.88/36" is what i would tell someone with a 4.0 OHV

4.88 is going to be nuts with that 5.0

How can you have too much power?!? :D I was actually thinking about getting the Torque Monster headers and a few other goodies to open her up a little. :burnout: But I'll have to wait a little on that phase.

shoot, go with the headers first. You wont even need gears after that.

oh yes vid will be needed. I am going to go 5:13's I think with 35's. I will go out lifted, on the stockers and have ALOT of fun

my plan is to gear to 5.13's first, and run 31's. should be a huge blast
