I am a new member here. I love the website and all the people here.

My 4x4 doesn't work all the time. It is as if the 4x4 light will not come on. Any advice would be appreciated.

It sounds like the problem is your 4 wheel drive doesn't work all of the time.

What does everyone else think?


Seriously, we need more information to try to diagnose.

Actually 99% of the time an intermittant 4x4 touch drive malfunction like this means the electronic shift motor on the transfer case needs to be rebuilt. It;s easy, I have done a few of them. Basically just like any motor carbon builds up on the brushes/motor stator and it quits.

and look under transfer case for instructions on how to do this. New ones from Ford are over $300, rip off artists.

Also if the motor is okay it is also likey that you have a faultyauto hub, if thats the case convert to manual.

What year is your truck?
I know your profile says you have a '92, but it also says you have the SOHC engine, which wasn't offered until '97. So do you have a '92 with the OHV engine, or is the '92 a typo?

I changed the title to say 4 instead of $ for you.
