Let's ponder this...what would have to be done? Has anyone done it on this board?

The frame and body would need to be lengthened for one, unless you would like the engine to sit inside the passenger compartment.

Tons of reinforcement to the frame. I owned a F-250 that had a 460 in it. IMO, no need for an engine that big in a X. But it sure would be fun! I saw a BroncoII that had a 5.0 crammed in it. that guy shoot up the dunes.

ha, just what I was gonna say. I'm not sure, that is a pretty big friggen eninge. If you look at the thread I made with the 351 in a 1st gen, you can see how theres basically no room for the 351, so you'd have a hard ass time to get one to fit reliably.
Don't think your passengers would be too happy;) :p

In Dec issue of 4 wheel and off road, the guy has a Bronco II sitting on a 3/4 ton frame with a 5.0 in it. Looked like he had to do a lot just for that!! Pretty sweet BII though.

ive been dealing with a lot of 460's in the last three years. they are by far my most very favorite engine.
But, if you think about it if you take the fuelie 4.0 out of your explorer (with all the Crap thats attatched) im talking everything, you could fit one of those massive motors in there. I can guarantee it. (with some motor mount mods and welding ect. Did you know that the 4.6 with all the Stuff ( by "stuff" i mean the a/c p/s p/b the big clunky intake, the 4.6 takes up way more room than a 460. i have a 460 that i have been building for 2 years now(ALMOST DONE!!) and ive had the hood of my x popped and taken a glance, it WOULD fit. But on the sad side all that torque would twist your poor x's frame and body in 2. It very well is possible though. Wouldnt it be cool to see a 4x4 X doin a wheelie past a camaro!!!!

Unless you had a solid front axle, It would be very hard to get the sag out of the axle from all the weight.

it is do-able, as someone made a swap kit for a 460 in a first gen. ranger, and no, im not making this up. if you can bolt one in a ranger, you can bolt one in an X.

as for the torque twisting the frame into, i dont think you will have any trouble. have you all forgotten about Troll? he's up close to 600 RWHP and almost 700 ft.lbs. of torque. his frame isnt twisted. just stick it in there, and enjoy. it will proly lower the front-end 1.5-2" though.

but considering how much of a pain in the ass people are having to swap in a 5.0 in a 1st gen, it would be a major major pain in the ass to get a 460 to fit. Thats a big engine with a much bigger block. I look at our 5.0 and see how cramped it is and I couldn't imagine a 460 in there.

I have seen a few rangers that have had it done. Most of them are done with serious 1/4 mile times on the head. It can be done and don't say it can't untill you have tried.

Go to www.rangerforum.com (I Think that's still up and running) and look at their V8 swap board and you will find a few folks who have done this.

I didn't say it couldn't be done, if that was aimed at me;) , it would just be a pain in the ass to get a 460 to fit and work reliably for everyday driving. It's still kinda cramped under the hood with a 5.0 in our 00' Mounty.

I wanna see a big block Explorer. I say go for it!

Rip out the wheel wheels to gain clearance. Get some heavy springs to handle the weight. Box the frame if your really think you need to. Make up some custom headers, and have fun!

if your gonna drop a big block in anyway, go for the big boys and use like a 502 crate motor.:D Supercharge that thing and run NOS and yell holy **** and hold on:D I think that would end up twisting our frames:confused:

at the can feild nationals... there was a lifted ford ranger with a 460..... looked really good.... but it didnt have any inner fenders and no power options but p/s i like my inner fenders as they keep my boggin mud off the engine.....

I'm still trying to figure how to get that 7.3 power stroke in my ex.

im sorry but i highly disagree with ever putting a chevy motor in a ford. 502 is a chevy crate motor. forget that, how about fords 514 crate motor?? but a blower on that, then your talking. uhh, just a personal preferance i think bottles aore for babies.
