4R44E no reverse and will not shift out of first

2000 Ranger. Have had no previous problems. Fluid not burned. No check engine light but have 2 codes. P1400 and P1633. Drives fine except will not shift out of first automatically or manually and no reverse. Can anyone diagnose this?

Welcome to this forum! Check the range sensor, wiring harness connector on the range sensor, and the main bulkhead connector. Do you have back up lights when you shift into reverse? Check the low/reverse band, servo, gasket, and O ring seals.

Thanks. Where would I find the range sensor? I will check the lights later today. If they do not come on, what would that indicate?

The range sensor is a newer version of a neutral safety switch with extra contacts for the computer to control the shift solenoids. It's located on the driver's side of the transmission. One set of contacts is a reverse light switch.
