99 ranger
Hi!
I've got a 99 ranger with 95000 miles with the 4r44e trans that has no reverse gear (acts like it's in neutral). Low 1 gear works fine (but I didn't test compression braking) Fluid is clean, not burnt, maybe a little low (right at the lower hole when cold). No Check engine light, no dtc's with generic scan tool. I hooked up a pressure gauge and got these readings with cold fluid:

park: 135psi @ idle, same at all rpm.
reverse: 175 psi @ idle, pegs gauge when revved up
Neutral: 130 psi @ idle, same at all rpm.
Drive: fluctuates, 105 when first shifted into D, jumps to 170 then
down to 100 within about 2 seconds. then stays at 100.
when revved up, goes to 210 or more (can't rev it too high
without moving truck)

I don't know if these pressure readings are normal but they seem a little high.
I am currently letting the truck run to warm it up & then I will post warm readings, but if anyone has some insight or advice on what else I should check I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Ok here are the warm readings:
park&neutral: 120 psi @ idle, 120-125 @ all rpm
Reverse: fluctuates, 140 then 170 @ idle, 200 @ 2500 rpm.
Drive: fluctuates 100 then 165 then 100 @ idle (takes about 1.5 seconds), 160psi @ 2500 rpm.

Readings still seem high, don't know if pressure fluctuation is normal ???

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Update:
I dropped the pan, fluid is in good shape, normal metal shavings on magnet, a little bit of clutch material, no chunks. Began removing valve body, found low- reverse servo tip cracked, removed valve body, found low-reverse band is loose in case. I assume L/R band is broken or anchor is broken or fell apart. Not sure if I am going to tear down the tranny or try to find a reasonably priced reman.
