4r55e not shifting

wife bought a 96 explorer for a good price,but when she was driving it home she found out that the transmission would not shift out of low,reverse works fine any ideas of what needs to be done to fix it ,??

Welcome to this forum! Did you check the fluid level? The filter might be partially blocked if it's very old. The EPC solenoid might be weak too. How many miles does it have?

according to what i heard it has about 200k on the vehicle and we are unable to locate any service records for it

You might have to rebuild it if it's the original transmission, but start with a valve body rebuild first. Check the sticky thread in the transmission section called the 5R55E valve body rebuild diary for more information.
