Hi guys,

I've got an 08 4.6L making a grinding/crunchy noise upon startup. I've pinpointed the sound to the passenger idler pulley by using a metal pole. The sound stops after the engine and bearings warm up a bit. I listened as best as I could to the other pulleys and those didn't make a whole lot of noise. The belt tensioner was kind of bouncing up and down, I'm not sure if that's normal operation.

Question -
Does anyone have a specific belt diagram with detail on the types of pulleys? I've looked online but could only find diagrams for 2005 Explorers or 4.6L in F150s.

I believe there are only 2 idler pulleys and I believe they are both exactly the same. RockAuto lists them as "Passenger" specific. I keep finding a grooved pulley included in these kits, but I have no idea where it goes.

I'm also wondering if these are supposed to be torque speced? I can't find that information either.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I've found this one, but it's listed as the 4.6L in the F150, not sure if it's the same. I feel it is the same based on memory, but not 100%

If you go to Autozone, they will print out a belt-routing diagram for you.

That's the correct picture. I found in my notes when I did mine the following. I think they are Dayco. They last a long time.

There are 4 pulleys.

89130 grooved idler
89007 tensionner pulley
89006 idler pulleys x 2

Thanks Explorer_PL! Do you remember if you torqued them to a spec or did you just do a few "UGHHAA"s and called it a day? I'm also wondering if I need any threadlock on these bolts...

I just purchased the following on Rock Auto -

x1 - Grooved Idler Pulley: ACELCO 36157
x2 - Smooth Idler Pulleys: Motorcraft YS253
x1 - Belt Tensioner: Motorcraft BT136
x1 - Serpentine Belt: Motorcraft JK61032AC

I paid for 2 business day shipping in hopes that I have it here by Friday. Planning to take off work on Friday to get it all swapped out and back up and running but for some reason, the shipping says it won't be here until Friday... oh well. Rock Auto, at least for my past shipments, have been earlier than advertised.

P.S. - I would also like to submit that I verified on my end that the diagram posted above is 100% accurate. I visually checked the belt routing and pulleys during my lunch break and they match exactly to the diagram above along with the visual representation of each pulley illustrated in the diagram.

Confirming -

I did UGHHAA ft-lbs of torque :)

Never used thread Lok on any pulleys, and never had any issue of them coming loose.

Maybe the proper way is to use that or torque it, but I never did.
