Gday, So I Just got the diagnoses from ford and “Apparently” The shift motor is ####ed as it has Contact failure, whatever the hell that means.

LOL, you should of seen the service advisers face change> he was telling me how you can’t actually pull the motors apart, I then said> Oh Ok, but I pulled the thing apart on the weekend, so what is actually Stuffed on it cause it all look good to me. He then back peddled and said he would need to what for the report from the Technician.

So any way it looks as if I need a New Shift motor. :thumbdwn:

For a 1997 4WD, Auto, XLT Explorer so how much do these cost guys, and where can I get one from in the U.S, and I will have it shipped to me hear in Aus.

(The car is a 97 I just realised today, I know I am a idiot LOL, It was first Licensed in 98 and I have never bothered to look at the Id Plates or paperwork to hard before , LOL)

Ford quoted me $880 for the shift motor  and there is no way they can be that expensive, can they?

I have tried to find one, on the “Fast parts Network” but I can’t locate a listing for it, do they sell them??

I would like to go with the genuine ford motor if I can.

Otherwise I will get an aftermarket one.

Cheers.

I haven't looked, but I bet if you do an internet search you should be able to find an online junkyard that will sell you one for half or less than fords quote.

g luck

Gday mate
Thanks, am going to ring a big Ford wrecker over in Eastern Australia tomorrow to see what they have. Available

But I would like to put a new one in so I don’t have this problem agene in 6 months or something and need to do it all over agene.

I might send the fast Parts Network and Summit a E-mail and see what they have.

Have dealt with summit before and the service was excellent so I might give them a try

Cheers.

They are on ebay for around 100$ all the time. I'm willing to help out if you can't get anyone to ship there. Just send me a PM

Ok thank's mate, I will look into it and make a few inquires tomorrow.

Will let you know if I need a hand with the shipping,

Cheers.

You might try emailing them and ask if they sell the shift motor separately. I only found a listing for the complete transfer case, but I think they can order any Ford part.

Sick bro, will send em a e-mail now

Just got home from a bad day at work, it's now a little better LOL

Thanks.

Gday guys, I just got a reply from a Ford Wrecker in Victoria, Australia, Said he has 1 4WD Shift motor off a 97 Explorer available, he will put a 3 month warranty on it and wants AU$250 + $10 Postage for it.

I am Happy to take it as it seems like a good price, remembering it is Australia and these parts are not readily available.

So what are the chances of this same thing occurring agene with this motor compared to a new aftermarket one which would cost almost the same to get to me, I know it’s a tuff question, but I would need to be unlucky for 2 shift motors to have Contact failures, don’t you think.?

I only need it to go the distance for 6 months as I am selling the X at the end of the year.

Cheers.

I wouldn't think it would happen again any time soon. I have never had any problems with the shift motor on my 95 and it gets used regularly.

Thanks, I have just brought the thing now anyway so we will see if it all goes well, should be hear on Friday.
