4WD LOW/4WD HIGH light blinking

I have a '99 XLT 4WD and occasionally the 4WD LOW and 4WD HIGH lights will blink on and off. This happens intermittently - might be twice a week and then not do it for a month. They will blink for about 20 seconds and then stop. This is while I'm in 2WD normal driving on dry highway or city roads.
Anyone know what causes this or what it means?

i would like to know as well because it did it once then the next day i had to replace my transmission...

i had to replace the banner assembly, torque converter, a bunch of bands an solenois all i know that it ended up being $2437.79 ouch!

Looks like the speed sensors on the transfer case...went thru same problems 3 years back approx.

They are easy to reach and replace

If you have the possibility to have your truck scanned to confirm the code, I am quite sure that it is related to these sensors...
