Sup guys, i have a 93 explorer XL with 4x4 and automatice locking hub. I'm missing a wheel stud on the front driver side, my question is, do i have to dismantle the brakes and hub to replace a stud or can i do it without removing anything?? I also have ABS. Thanks guys

Matt

i do believe you have to take things off to put on the wheel stud

is it crucial to have 5 lug nuts or i should be fine with 4??

You can get away with 4 for low-speed, around town driving, or slow going on trails, but the wheels are lug-centric, so you really need all 5 lugs to have the wheels secure, centered, and on there correctly so the lug nuts won't vibrate loose.

If the rotors are fairly new and unworn, it might be worth it to pull the offending rotor, and either take it somewhere to have them punch out the old lug and press in a new one, or you can do it yourself with the right tools.

If the rotors aren't new, or are getting worn down, chances are it's worth your while to just replace both rotors rather than just the lugs on one. Be sure to get new, quality brand rotors, though. Ones with at least a year warranty are usually what you want. You could also upgrade to something like Powerslot slotted rotors, too.
