Hey guys I’ve searched and searched and don’t see anyone who has done this on the 06-10. I have a 06 that I have pulled the engine to replace and I bought a 07 with a good 4.0 to pull and put in my 06.
The 07 is 4x4 that’s wrecked and I’m curious what all has to be done to swap the 4x4 into my 06. Of course harness and hard parts but do I need to change computer and bcm or just put fuses and relays in for the 4x4 switches?
thanks guys!!

Not clear whether the '06 is 2WD or 4WD. If 2WD, conversion to 4WD requires MUCH WORK.

Better better to find yourself a 4x4 Exploder, sell the other one and whatever parts are good from the wrecked unit. If it's not a daily and you have air tools and the willingness, then go for it, but you'll be cussing Ford, yourself, and the very ground you're standing on by the time you're done LOL.

Yes the 06 is 2wd. Both trucks will have the engine out so going ahead and changing tranny, front diff, and driveshafts is really not that much more work. Once the engine is out the transmission is only a crossmember, lines, and some plugs from coming out. Not really looking for folks to tell me “it’s work” I’m looking for someone who has done it and can tell me things like if the BCM and cluster needs to be changed as well as the ECM and if the 4x4 is a wire harness or if I just need to use the entire power train harness from the 4x4 truck. I’m pretty sure I know what’s involved but it would be great if someone had done it and told me any little tricks. 👍

Maybe checking the part numbers for the wiring harness, PCM, etc. for 4WD and 2WD versions will indicate which components will need to be swapped. If part numbers are different then it is likely they aren't interchangeable. I wouldn't be surprised if no one here has done this swap.

Make sure the diff ratios are the same in both trucks...that's going to be the biggest hurdle, but if not, it's not like it can be overcame with a little more work.

You'll have to add in the trans case harness and buttons etc to the subject vehicle. No idea if that harness will be "plug and play" deal..

Yep checked ratios first. The powertrain harness is the same. The t case has its own harness that runs under gas tank down pass side to 4x4 module in dash. Front diff always engaged no wires there. Not plug and play 4x4 harness it ties into dash harness. Luckily these dashboards are pretty easy to swap they plug into the truck on the side so rather than trying to split up harness we just swapped dashes same color and then it plugs right up. Doing BCM and cluster swap because the 4x4 cluster is programmed for a signal from the bcm to illuminate the 4x4 lights. If you have two trucks it’s looking like a few weekends and she should be up and running.

Nice! Keep us in the loop, if you would.

Of course the drivetrain is the main part. The 4x4 harness is not separate from the dash harness or at least in this 08 I'm working on. The harness that runs down to the t-case looks separate though (1st pic). They plug in the 4x4 module (2nd pic) and go to the dash harness(green plug 3rd pic) that ends up at the fuse box and 4x4 buttons. Saw you pretty much figured it out but wanted to add pics incase anyone else was wondering.
