4x4 lights flashing and locking

hi, i have that problem with my 4x4 high low lights flashing 6 times and than stopping for a bit and flashing again..
When i turn or park, the car binds up than bangs and binds up again till i straighten up.. i beleive the diffs are locking in? or something like that...
Will the brown wire mod fix this problem?? as i only use it on the road and sometimes up the beach?
Also its a 97 xlt with the 4wd auto 4hi 4low setup.
ANY help would be greatly apreciated!

First find a code reader that understands proprietory code(s) and let us know what they are. I'm thinking Transfer case issue.

Make sure the 4LO-4HI-AUTO rotary switch is in "AUTO". That should remove the vehicle from 4wd and should stop the banging.

If that doesnt work, some people on the forum have been lucky by disconnecting the battery a few minutes.

thanks for the feed back guys, i had it in 4x4 auto and it still did it, it also still did it in 4x4 hi and low... i have cut the brown wire and it has worked! i dont know were i could a code reader from or wat itd even look like!... but i think ur rite that its a transfer case problem... the lights still flash but it is now 2wd due to the brown wire mod... i will try the battery idea, thanks for the help...
