4x4 not engaging

Well did a lot of searcing and read lots of them great work guys lots of help BUT still troubles. I have 2 91 x's one with a five speed with i done did wreck and one with an auto trans.Took the shift motor off and replaced it with the one that i knew worked and put it on and the lights on the dash come on now but 4x4 does not engage.Can hear it clicking under the truck when i push the button but that is it.Low range it cluncks when i push the button any ideas
Also would the transfer case fit from standard to automatic or are different like the engines

i know i am new here, but you need to disconnect the battery for 30 secs to reset the computer. just got a deal on a 4x4 91 EX. EB. with no 4wd. thats why i got the deal, a year ago the previous owner replaced the tranny, no 4wd since. he thought it was broke !!!!!! i brought it home and in 15 mins i had the 4wd workin !!!!! the t-cas motor may be frozen due to lack of use, just get mama to tap on it while you press the switch, after removing neg. batt. cable for at least 30 secs. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!
