4x4 Not engaging =(

So went to pop it in to 4x4 and nothing happened, no light, nothing. I checked out the trouble shooting guide and it seems to me that the dash button just crapped out because I can't hear the relays kicking on. Whats the level of involvement when replacing this? No dash removal right :thumbdwn::thumbdwn: Where can I pick up another switch?

My guess would be it's not the switch. I've had two that acted like yours, push the button and nothing. Both were fixed by replacing the little plastic bushing in the motor drive. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123542

I took it apart today starting with the switch. Popped it out and it wasn't even plugged in! Now I can hear the replays clicking but still not engaging. I crawled underneath and checked the wires. It looks like the last person who worked on it didn't clip the harness back on and a few of the wires stripped so I'm hoping nothing burned out.

I need to do the same thing.... I NOT car savy at all. So how did you pop out the switch?? Are you talking about the wiring behind the 4x4 button??

The wiring behind the button is super easy to get to. Just take a flat head screw driver and from the bottom, gently pry it out with the screw driver.
